  • Ctek incompatible with new 2015 prado t/d?

The brother in law has just upgraded from a 120 petrol to a new 2015 t/d 150 series. I removed the dual battery gear from the 120 (excluding the tray) to allow it to be fitted to the new rig, however auto lec is stating that the ctek is no good in the newer shape prado and is advising the red arc equivalent. Can anyone confirm this and advise why? I have used my ctek in both my 2006 120 and 2010 150 diesels? Any help would be great

Does the autolec want to supply the Redarc?

Apparently the new prado's have a different alternator again that is a lower output. The ctek chargers have a higher initial voltage requirement to commence charging than the new redarc unit. Therefore people have been caught out with the ctek not charging as the voltage output of the alternator is too low. This is the story given from 3 different places, yet to confirm on the spec sheets for both units but sounds like it might be legit.

ARB are also a ctek retailer. I would personally just get a get BCDC 25amp low voltage setup, then you dont have to worry about booster diodes or anything else like that

                  I agree BCDC25 that's what i have installed.
It also leaves you with the option to add a solar panel to charge the AUX if your stopped in one place for a day or 2.

All sorted, I have taken the Ctek from him to add to my trailer build and he is having the BCDC 25amp low voltage unit fitted. Great score for me and an extra expense for him!!!

On the ctek you caharge it through thr solar input if the car has a smart alternator. Its because a smart alternator will not charge the battery ones the main battery gets to 13.2 volts ( i think)

I have a 2014 turbo diesel prado, there is no such thing as a smart charge alt in a prado I use a red arc smart solenoid. The alt will charge 13.8 cold and 13.6 all day every day it's not heat or voltage sensitive like other new cars. 13.6 is fine as long as your not running AGM which as far as I'm concerned are a waste of time as only one manufacture warrants them under your bonnet I have a calcium deep cycle battery that meets weight limit under my bonnet and can run my fridge for 4 days with out starting the car
