Hi all. Been looking to get some driving lights for a few weeks now. Read plenty of reviews and weighed it all up.
I know it's all about personal preference, and I decided that I would get a decent set of Halogens. I didn't like the colour temp of LEDs, and have had HIDs before and preferred the "instant on" of halogens. I also felt that I didn't need 100,000 lumens, as I've read and seen that glare from road signs can be annoying - I really just need them for country roads, not off-road.
So, was seriously considering the Fyrlyt spots, but at $700 for a pair and wiring loom it was a bit of a stretch. Reading a review, the Narva Ultima 225 Halogens seemed to have good light output, and came with a plug-n-play loom. What's more, while the rrp used to be about $450 for a pair, my local BCF had a pair on the shelf for $340. So I decided to grab them.
I got to the store and the bloke there bought them out from behind the counter (I'd been talking to them on the phone about any being in stock) and I could see why they had reduced the price - the box looked like these things had been on the shelf for a decade! Quite tattered and such.
While I was paying for them another staff member who was chatting with another customer, remarked while half laughing "That's a huge set of lights ... hahaha", then further commented "should work fine though".
I paid and left with my "huge" lights.
I must admit, they are pretty big. Now I'm new to all this - first 4WD (Prado GXL) and was wondering if I'm going to look like a "half-back flanker" with what is obviously "old technology huge-ass" spots?
I know it's not a fashion contest, and if they work for me then who cares ... but I couldn't help to think from the comments that there was a bit of a joke and I was the subject? Not sure.
Are they daggy?
Cheers.
