  • Power lead through top of dash

    Hello all,

Chasing a bit of info regarding running a power wire from an ignition source through the top of the dash to a radar detector.

Do I need to try and drill a hole in the top of the dash (difficult with the slope of the windscreen), or is there a simple way to do this?

I have read other threads saying that I can get power from the wiper switch but I can't find any info on where to run wires through the top of the dash.

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers Johno

Where do you want the wire to come out? If you are happy with it coming out in the middle it's very easy to remove the section above the stereo on a MY2015 GXL. I added 2 x USB sockets for phone chargers - there is heaps of room under it.

      Johno,

Getting the wire up is fairly easy. Remove the grab handle and then the A pillar panel. Then from underneath remove the plastic cover there is two screws holding it from memory, and the side kick panel, which also from memory needs the floor kick panel removed. Then it is just a matter of getting a piece of wire or yellow tongue down from the top to use to pull the wire up and then replace all the panels. Getting the ignition source that can come from a number of spots and it just depends on where you want to get it from. I got mine from under the center console as it happened to be where I had the panels removed as I was fitting something there that I wanted to run off the ignition. But it is the source of my dash cam and tyre monitor power so one runs up the drivers A pillar and the other goes up the passenger A pillar.
There is also enough room near the window to get the wire up without any need for drilling holes.

I am sure there are threads on how to remove the panels on here already.
