  • Tapping into the high beam loom to connect driving light relay. Where to do this?

I have the 2014 GXL (diesel) and now am fitting driving lights. In WA like most other states, the lights must be wired through the high beam using an on/off switch.

My problem is accessing some point in the high beam circuit where I can run a wire to the driving light relay. I identified the terminal on the high beam relay in the fuse box but how do I gain access to the wire connecting to that terminal. Do I have to remove the entire fuse box to access the terminal from underneath to attach the wire to the driving light relay or is there an easier way?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Most tap the wire behind the headlight.

i used the narva driving light harness
simple to install unplug headlight cable plug in the spliter to supply the relay and switch
most of it plug and play
just get a switch that fits in a blank in the dash somewhere and easy install

You can try something like this, is an extension lead for the plug to the bulb, tap into the wire in the extension and you don't have to cut any of the existing wiring.

Just check you are getting the right one for the high beams, as the low beam ones could have different plugs?

All good advice thanks guys. I wondered about taping into the wire behind the high beam headlight but thought the power drain to drive the relay may cause voltage drop which would affect the high beam's brightness. Yet again the small amount of power used to trip the relay should not affect the high beam.

Yeah, relays use half of nothing, only a small electromagnet to run.

I'll also second the use of the "headlight extension loom" from ebay. No need to cut into the factory loom.

              Cheers, Nova
