  • Help with facelift a/v needed

I'm on a quest to get an external video source video running through the factory head unit. So far I've come so close, but haven't quite got there.

My plan was to use an ebay interceptor harness which provides av RCA inputs. This was bought and installed, and while it did play video and sound, I loss all ability to use the external microphone. I contacted the supplied who admitted they hadn't actually tested the harness on a Toyota with an external mic...

I have now turned my attention back to the standard 3.5mm jack. I purchased a 3.5mm to RCA adapted from Jaycar this afternoon, ensuring it was video enabled (4 post jack). After plugging it in, I get video when the 3.5mm jack is 1/4 pressed in, but after pressing in the whole way it blue screens and no audio or video? Likewise, further pressing in half way gains audio, but no video.

I would like to know if these cables come in different orders on the post for audio/video? Perhaps I have a cable where this is out of order required for the Prado?

    Any help appreciated!

(FYI - my setup is running from my iphone. Lightning to HDMI converter > digital to analogue conversion box > RCA to 3.5mm jack into the factory socket.)

I have done a post in previous thread about the connections and they are not standard.
"Yes it does. I used a 4 pin aux plug to composite stereo RCA plug cable. The video and right channel are crossed to standard. So yellow goes to red o/p and red to yellow o/p of video/audio source."

Thanks ww1 - I did see your post earlier. I have changed swapped the video (yellow) feed and red (audio) feed around on the converter box and still nothing unfortunately. Am I missing something?

Edit - I tried the above solution by ww1 last night and nothing, but started the car up now and it's working perfect.

Problem solved - fully functioning video and audio. Now to find out which pin is the speed sensor so it can disabled allowing video feed when driving for navigation...

Problem is you will not be able to listen to radio etc. as the A/V feed will disable all other functionality.

Far better to do what I did and buy a 6" nuvi 2689 and mount it in the bottom storage area. Fits like a glove.
