Aftermarket Apple car play

Hi All,

I have a 2014 150 series GLX. Last week my wife picked up her new VW Golf which comes std with Apple car play, must say very impressed with it! After a bit of research I see Toyota are part of the Apple CP programme.

I'd be really keen to get it added to my Prado using the current screen. I see I can get a kenwood or pioneer additional system, but I really don't see the point of two screens! Does anyone have any info on this? Surely it's just a micro computer that I can hook into my current display?

Appreciate any info.

I had a pioneer HU with CarPlay in my 2012 GXL and am greatly missing it in my new 2016 GXL, I will be interested if it can be added to the OEM headunit.

Sadly it can't. There is some aftermarket units that are factory replacement however they don't feature android auto or CarPlay. I made the decision just to replace the factory unit with an aftermarket unit and I you;dn't be happier. I just moved the factory screen down the bottom, However in hindsight I should have just gone with the storage pocket. Can help you out with what you need if you like?

That'd be great thanks, do you have any pics of the unit fitted? Which one did you get? After using the wife's gif with car play, that screen in the prado seems so useless! Such a waste. Toyota tried to upgrade me at my last service, but even the new ones don't have car play?

Does anyone have any info why it's taking so long? I know Toyota are one of the manufactures working with Apple.

Toyota arrogance, plain and simple. They dont to provide features that are modern and cool to give their cars another angle. They rely on the fact that people buy Toyotas because they are Toyotas. Those days are numbered though.

You might be interested in this one from Sony, its double DIN so would need that facia mod that a few people have done and it's quite new and supports apple carplay and android auto, i've just started looking into it myself for my 2010 GX, it does seem pretty limited as far as the number of inputs etc.. go however. i dunno how good it is as i haven't had a chance to have a physical play with one but might be what you're looking for? I was originally looking at the Parrot Asteroid Smart too, but it seems to have a fair few negative reviews so i'm not quite sold on it.
