A few months ago I noticed that the cruise control would only work sometimes but if I wiggled the steering wheel then turned it on it would normally work. After a bit of googling it seemed like the issue was a dodgy clock spring.
Then a bit of googling about costs had me in tears - it was looking like $1000-$1200 for the genuine Toyota part here in Australia plus a couple of hundred or more to fit. So I looked on Amayama and found a genuine Toyota one with the steering angle sensor for about $380 delivered. It was here in just over a week. You can get just the clock spring without the steering angle sensor off ebay for less than $100 but then you have to swap the SAS over and I didn't really want to take a risk with non-genuine parts in this case.
I found some instructions on Pradopoint from matt12 who had replaced his http://www.pradopoint.com.au/showthr...t=clock+spring
I fitted the new part yesterday and it was really straight forward. It only took about 20 minutes and if I had to do it again would probably only take 10 mins. I was expecting a steering angle sensor error to come up, which I would have to get Toyota to reset, but it didn't happen so happy days.
