    The spec says that is uses 2.5A max. So at 12V, that's 30W. So it would be similar on AC. I think the AC outlet on the 150 is either 100W or 120W. So it should be fine.

      I did that with my 47L ARB fridge for a while.
      It did work but not very reliably, the inverter shut itself down every now and then.
      Looked like the inverter didn't like the inrush currrent drawn by the fridge.
      The other problem was we couldn't lock the doors when the fridge was running (ignition switch has to be off to lock door in 150). Real hassle when we wanted to stop to grab something to eat away from the car.

        Hmmm didnt think of that, there is no way to leave the 12v running whilst the car is locked either is there?

            which inverter did you buy to replace the old one with

            the standard inverter is only good for 100w at 240v which is .4amps
            it also has very thin wires

                Ran my 50L Waeco on the inverter until i installed the dual battery last week. Never found the inverter to be an issue..seemed to power the fridge ok, but granted the fridge was cold when put in the car.. and it was mainly used over winter. Was expecting some sort of issue when you look at the skinny wiring and the piddly inverter.. but... no issues.

                  Great to know, im planning on putting in a dual battery setup eventually, however just wanted to make sure i can run the fridge in the mean time without too much hassle!. Thx

                    Hi all

                    I am buying a RAPS36 Waeco battery until I can put in a Dual system.
                    I am planning on running the 40L Engel off the inverter and have the Waeco power unit plugged into the Prado 12v and the engel at the same time.
                    I says that the engel can have both pugged in at the same time and it can differentiate.
                    My thought is have them both plugged in so when I switch off the car the engel will continue to work via the Waeco Raps36.

                    Any thoughts on this?

                      There are losses when it comes to efficiency when using the fridge from a 220V inverter supply. So while if the inverter is rated adequately to support the loading, you still have to factor in that the inverter is stepping up the voltage from 12Vdc to 230Vac and then the fridge is stepping it back down from 230Vac to 12Vdc.

                      Best option is to operate the fridge on the battery supplies when available as this is the most efficient.

                      Does the 150 have a 12Vdc socket in the rear similar to the 120? If so this would still be better than the inverter, as the inverter switches off when the key is removed (i think) which is the same as the rear 12Vdc socket would. So there would be no benefits there.

                        The 150 only has a 220v socket in the boot, no 12v. Im planning on putting in dual battery very soon so ill add a 12v socket in the boot off the dual battery.

                          Has anyone been able to find out if the inverter is Modified or Pure Sine-Wave? I assume its the former (because they're cheaper) and that they shouldn't be used for computers and the like. Anyone know?

                            The inverter has a modified sine-wave and is not voltage regulated very well.

                            Unloaded the waveform looks like this at 228.29V and 51.80 Hz

                            [img=http://s22.postimage.org/fop4ttysd/P3060198.jpg]

                            With 60W of load it looks like this at 215.66V and 51.77 Hz

                            [img=http://s22.postimage.org/swoimrwbh/P3060199.jpg]

                            With 70W of load it looks like this at 212.96V and 51.77 Hz

                            [img=http://s24.postimage.org/3n3eajl9t/P3060201.jpg]

                            Personally, I wouldn't use it for anything sensitive (or expensive) such as laptops, smart phones, etc

                              Yes it is a modified sine-wave inverter, however most laptop chargers should be fine to use in my opinion. Most chargers nowdays have a stepdown transformer and rectifier inbuilt. They are mostly multi voltage input (ie 100-240vAC) to cater for different country's mains voltages. A transformer will still work with a modified sine-wave input and will not output any DC surges or fluctuations to it's load.
                              Just my qualified opinion.

                                I have run my engel 45 ltr fridge off the 220v plug in the rear. Obviously it only runs when the ignition is on. I do however, the night before I plug the fridge into the mains at home and just as we leave I plug into car. This will reduce the strain on the inverter when the fridge starts up as it is already at the required temp from the house mains. This will have to do for now as the aux battery system is sitting idle on the back burner for another couple months yet.
