  • Flashing hazard lights after changing battery

    Hi.

After reconnecting the battery, I noticed flashing hazard lights.

    Some observations:

    - the hazard lights start flashing when opening a door or turn ignition key to on. They flash for about 30times.
    - it makes different clicking sounds than if I use the hazard lights button or left/right indicator.
    - unable to reprogram the remote central lock control
    - sometimes (rarely) the hazard lights goes off during waiting/accelerating on a traffic light/Crossroad.

Toyota garage has no idea what it could be. That's why ask the experts in that forum ;-)

    Kind regards,
    Rabbit

You didn't accidentally connect the battery backwards at any point did you?

It sounds like some sort of alarm going off with hazards going for a pre determined time. Your remote central locking should not need reprogramming if changing a battery.. That kind of says something has happened to the electrics and maybe computers... Did Toyota plug in to see if any codes thrown?

      Hi Piggy.
      Thanks for your answer!
      No, no backward connection... ;-)

I always needed a reprogramming, that seems to be something normal at this car.

For some reason it started the last time, as I tried to fix the "moving battery" problem and disconnected the battery.

Is it important, which connections I make first? E. G. + first, them earth or the opposite way?

Hi rabbit and welcome to the forum.

For safety reasons, always disconnect the negative ( - ) clamp/Lead from a battery first and then the positive ( + ) clamp/Lead.

        When reconnecting, positive ( + ) first then negative ( - ) last.

But the way you connect or disconnect should not effect the vehicle’s electronics.

One other question, did you by any chance leave your ignition switched on while you disconnected and then reconnected your battery leads?

A question for those in the know, can you carry out a HARD RESET on a Toyota?

Actually I don't know if the car electrician left the key in ON position, while disconnecting the battery.

I tried it afterwards to fix the problem (idea was to empty the condensators).
          But it didn't work...

Sounds like your electrician has an issue he needs to sort out then...

              Problem solved!

Drivesafe gave the right hint. It seems, that there was a kind of an error in the system.

I turned the ignition key to ON and disconnected the battery (negativ clamp for safety reason ;-)).

Then (without turning ignition key to OFF), waited for 10min to empty the condensors.

              Reconnected the battery.

              Turned Ignition Key to OFF.

After turning back to ON, all good. No flashing hazard lights anymore!

Then reprogrammed the Remote control for the central lock as described in the instructions.

Thank you all guys for your inputs! It was very helpful!

PS: tomorrow I will drive 700km Dirtroad with a lot of corrugations. If the battery will stay in place, I will post the solution how to fix that problem in that forum...
