  • UHF microphone volume

I have recently installed a uniden uh9080s. I got my son to get on the hand held and he can just faintly here me.

I have read the book and I can’t find anywhere to increase the microphone volume.

Anyone got any suggestions? Am I overlooking something simple?

Is the handheld a 40 channel? That would halve the volume.

        Fair comment....

make sure both radios are both 80ch radios....
they implemented NB a few years ago, so the spacing and channel/frequency assignment may be different if you are both not using an 80ch radio

        what model is the handheld?

Is your antenna ok, Run a SWR meter over it. A dud antenna will cause poor outputs. Will also damage output transistors of the radio.

It appears that both radios are 80CH NB radios so there should be no issue there with compatibility.

Is there a problem with your sons Handheld?
Have you tired to chat with another radio to help isolate the issue?

I also have changed antenna's with the same result.

Uniden suggested a reset which I did, now channels 63/62/61 and 23/22 make a beeping sound when you press the button to transmit and it stops when you take your finger off the button.

Thats because you are not meant to transmit on those channels. 22/23 are for telimetry and 61-63 are reserved (who knows what for)
