  • 2018 Prado 150 dual battery tray?

Looking to install a dual battery into 2918 Prado and as far as I can see, all I need is a plastic tray under the battery and then just clamp it down with the points provided. In other words, I don't think I need a metal tray bolted onto multiple spots... Am I correct?

Also, some folk seem to think there is a 23kg weight limit on the battery, but many of the pics/video I've seen have batteries closer to the 30kg mark. Can anyone confirm what the story here is?

    Many thanks!

I started with the cheap plastic tray but switched to a metal TJM tray which also bolts forward to keep the battery steady on outback trips. My 105 ah deep cycle battery weighs 22 kg.

I have used the ARB one. It limits the battery size. OPtima yellow top 4,2 fits perfect.

It also has the space to add a BCDC.

Thanks - which battery do you have?

I have the ARB battery tray in my 2018 Prado GX. It only fits a 10-inch (NS70) sized battery. It has a bracket for mounting the REDARC BCDC1225D charger next to the front side panel -- should keep the charger pretty cool there, I guess.

            I have a Century NS70TX MF 82 AH (18.6 Kg) battery.

82 AH is enough for me -- I only run a 47L pretty efficient fridge, and I don't go crazy with lights. Upside is less weight and room for the REDARC charger.

It seems most people go for the bigger 12-inch, ~105 AH battery, though.

My understanding is that there was an issue with Prado guards cracking, supposedly from heavy auxiliary batteries... might be resolved in the new 2018 Prado though.

              Thanks Grinbot.

I went with an SSB HVT70ZZD, which is 27kg and N70 size at 105 Ahr. Fits in nicely, can be discharged quite deep, is a dry AGM and can go under the bonnet, so it ticked the boxes for me... plus 3 year warranty. Will be charged with a Ctek D250SA, which I got yesterday.
