150 diesel alternator

Hi all ... I think the alternator in my 2010 diesel Prado has just chucked it in, battery light is on, battery terminal connections seem ok ... in the 3 years I've owned it, it's pretty much always had a strange whirring some for a few seconds after you turn it off but it may have gotten worse recently ... also noticed what seemed like a air intake or turbo noise at about 1000rpm this morning after driving home last night with the lights on ... anyway question is, are these alternators compatible for all years, as there's a few for sale on Gumtree etc ... any input would be spectacular

OK ... problem solved with new alternator, battery light was on as it was only charging at 12 volts, anyway the override clutch seemed to be cactus on the old one
