  • Mean Mother Power distribution box

    Hi Guys,

Looking to install the power distirbution box in the rear cargo area as part of a dual battery system:
    https://meanmother.com.au/product/po...tribution-box/

As seen it connects to the battery via anderson plug. I would like to conceal the anderson plug behind the wall trim - just wondering how difficult this is to remove this trim to avoid cutting big holes?

    Cheers!

Ouch, thats expensive.. The anderson plugs are annoying if you dont need them. I'd suggest you look around, there is a lot of other items on the market that are cheaper, or you could build you own for likely well under $100. Trim is just clip off, grab and pull.

Really? this seemed to be the cheapest option for an all in one prepackaged box that i could find on the market. It looked to be pretty versatile without messing around wiring stuff up myself (not much of a sparky). Figured the anderson plugs were good for this reason too?

So no tricks to removing the trim in this area other than gently prying out?

I reckon it looks good ! Easy and simple too and it has a Anderson you could cut your fridge cable and put a Anderson on it and use that outlet and then you have lots of others still left..

And Easy to just run cabling to the rear

trim comes off easy first time you’ll be a little scared just pull off a corner or area and start from there pulling it back..

you can even get your hand through the jack little door thing and also the 3rd row cup holder can come out and fit your hand down if that makes sense

I thought i'd update the post since i went ahead with the PD box. Ordered one online from Automotive superstore but this took too long to ship so i ended up finding one locally (So incidentally, if i can't return the box, i may have one for sale).

But it worked very nicely. the hardest part was running the cables from the aux battery (Delkor HDC-27 mounted on OCAM tray). As im not much of a sparky i had the wiring preassembled as part of an aussie drifter touring BCDC pack (which may have been a bit on the pricey side but all in all pretty neat package).

Mounted the box above the stock AC socket using M5 nuts and bolts. This seemed to be the best location to get the box flush and neat in the GX but GXL may be different. . Then popped the contact tabs out of the anderson plug to feed the cable a fairly large hole drilled in the interior trim, reassembled the plug and connected to the battery wiring.

Ran a fridge through the box overnight with me fishing out a beer every 15 minutes and it only seemed to drop about 1 V. Then left it idle for 5 days or so (only powering the LED indicator screen on the box) and the voltage remained fairly well constant for this time. The only change I'd consider is potentially adding a switch in the dash to disconnect the box when known to not be in use.
