  • New AM/FM radio antenna adapter blue wire

As I have modified my Prado 150, I have noticed a general decline in the reception of my standard AM/FM radio. I was told this was due to interference from roof racks, the large aluminium cage in the rear, dual batteries etc. Currently the aerials for the radio are in the two rear side windows. The solution was to fit an external a GME aerial to the bull bar and connect this to the radio. The connection between the new aerial and the radio however are incompatible so I purchased an adapter an adapter to go between the radi connection and the new aerial. This connected however the adapter has a blue wire leading from the radio end. From my reading on the web it is an antenna power wire to activate the amplifier. Is any one able to tell me which existing wire in the harness which plugs into the back of the radio, do I have to splice this blue wire into. There are about 16 wires. Thanks for any assistance.

I highly doubt the loss of reception is because of accessories fitted as most of us have roof racks or platforms, cargo barrier, dual batteries etc.
Who diagnosed the cause, I would think it would more likely be something to do with the antenna booster rather than the accessories.

The people who told me this were two different car radio fitters, neither was interested in selling me anything. When I bought the car new I drove to Gunnedah and could easily hear ABC Sydney. I noticed the decrease in range when I added the roof racks, batteries and electric to the rear for an inverter, camper trailer power. twelve months later when I fitted the full aluminium shelving and cage in the rear area I loose reception for ABC Sydney totally before I get to Newcastle and have generally less 50km range for any station I choose.

Interesting that it happens but you have noticed the issues as accessories were fitted. Perhaps most of us are listening to bluetooth connected devices when we travel so have not noticed the signal degradation.
Another bit of knowledge to file away for future reference.
