Carplay head unit part number and compatibility
I see the new Pardo 20/21 has a factory head unit with carplay. Just wondering if anyone has the part number for the new unit and how compatible it would be with the 2018/19/20 Prado. If you ask me Toyota should be offering a cheap swap over for being so late to technology party.

By the way, any of you boomers out there that have bought a new Prado only to find out it has no CD player do I have a deal for you. I am happy to come to you and swap head units with you. Hopefully, you are in Victoria. -
Asked the service advisor about an hour ago. He claims the new 2020 unit has a completely different wiring harness and as far as he has been told they cannot retrofit into even 2019 models. I have a 2019 GXL, so you can imagine my disappointment with his answer.Originally posted by angyp View Post

I recently bought a 2018 Vx and are looking at options for CarPlay. Interested to know if anyone has tried fitting a factory unit from a 2021+ model? Or is the original reply in fact correct and the newer units won’t work.

It would be great to know. I doubt it would be a completely different wiring harness. I wouldn't mind still getting hold of a newer unit. If there's anyone out there who has upgraded their factory unit out of a 2021+ model and wants to donate/sell the original unit for R&D I would be happy to do the work.Comment

Looks like I have managed to find the part number 86140-60J70. I have yet to find where I can buy one from. These guys seem to repair them https://electronicrepairs.com.au/pro...eo-repair-3265. If anyone with a 20/21 VX Prado can confirm that part number that would be great. If anyone has upgraded from such a unit and wants to sell the old one let me know also. ThanksComment
