  • 2021 Prado 150 70th Anniversary Edition Tow Hitch Harness Issues

    Good Day All,

I have an ex-Japan 2021 Prado 150 70th Anniversary Edition that I am trying to fit the Toyota/Brink Removable Tow Hitch and Electrical Harness to. I fitted the Hitch without any issues, however with the Electrical Harness, I cannot find the Body Plug that connects to the Towing Module supplied with the Tow Kit. Most forums say that its located near the Jack, but there is nothing there... Removed the entire third row of seats and interior panels and boot trim, and still can't find the damn 10-pin plug for it. Beginning to assume that maybe the newer vehicles have a different plug compared to the tow kit? Would be grateful for any help or advice on what to do...

Attached Photos are of the Tow Module and the Boot area of my Prado where I have been hunting for the 10-pin connector...

This snip is from Toyota's official website for the Prado 150 (2017 onwards). The connector involved is # R23 and is located in rear passenger-side corner of the RHD of the Prado.

GeeWhizz stripped the car again - both sides even. Harness does not have that connector R23 on either side. Seems to terminate at R27, and then the small plug to the Door Lock. The 10-pin connector for the Hitch Module is definitely not on the left or right hand side of the vehicle. I am wondering if since this is a Japanese Domestic Market vehicle that I imported myself, perhaps they do things differently. Downloading the Toyota EPC now but if anyone wants to skip ahead and check for me, the VIN is GDJ150-0069553 - its a 12/2021 Manufacture Date and 01/2022 Registration Date Prado TX 70th Anniversary Edition with the 2.8 Diesel Engine and AdBlue spec…

I'm not sure that this photo will help much. I bought my MY2016 secondhand. This photo was taken about a year ago, when I was chasing a fault with the trailer brake controller (Tow-Pro box, centre). The other towing kit (as well as the red dust) was in-situ when I bought the car. (Someone had left a rubber plug loose sometime in the past). I had added the Tow-Pro Elite Mk 2 and the aftermarket parking sensor controller (below the seatbelt reel) shortly after I bought the Prado in 2019.

Of interest to you would be the "Trailer Lamp ECU", adjacent to the fuel filler, and the white plug/socket near the white cable (white cable added by me). I'm not certain but I think that the white plug/socket is R23.

You may need to tap into the wires you need to feed your Towing ECU as follows:
        Left Turn Yellow Wire R28-20 & 22
        Right Turn Green Wire R28-8 & 10
Ignition Grey Wire GR3-13 (Probably powers the ECU) (That gets complicated - located in front left passenger kick panel)
Reverse Lights Red Wire GR1-3 (Located in front left passenger kick panel)
Tail Lights Light Green Wire R30-17 & R29-18 (Located at the front of the left rear wheel arch)
        Ground is a Black/White Wire
Brake Lights Blue Wire AR2-5 (Also located in front left passenger kick panel)
I have not included the trailer service brakes wire Click image for larger version
