  • Lithium Rear Aux Battery Set-Up

Thinking of aux battery placement in the rear of a new GXL, and am leaning towards this lithium Kickass battery box 120ah - SKU: KAJBLITBOXKIT2

Rather than messing around under the bonnet and trying to fit plugs in the rear this seems like a no brainer, heaps of outlets, everything is included and self contained, just bolt it down and run one loom to the front

Will only be powering 1 fridge, camp lighting and charging some accessories. I have a projector 120w folding solar panel that I will use to top up, and might look at fixed in the future

Has anyone used these? Please share your rear aux battery set ups

Yes, I have been using a Aux battery box then on last Easter, upgraded it to a Lithium battery.

Mine was custom made/setup for me by a 12v electrician at battery world 4 years ago. Aux battery box was a little forward thinking the time.

Mine is a battery box, with a 100ah AGM (then upgraded to 100ah Lithium last Easter), hooked up to a Redarc 1225D, a Victron management, a bunch of USB A ports, a cig plug, with a few Anderson plug for either solar input, or high output for travel buddy this kind of thing.

I run a Dometic Portable Lithium Battery Pack and sit in the LHS rear passenger footwell. Its only 40 Ah but meets my requirements. I plug it into the Cig socket and it pulls 8amps when charging.

I did look at installing a battery box setup like you're thinking but as I didn't need a lot of energy this suited my needs.

I’ve just put a kickass agm 120ah battery box in my gxl, I got the diy wiring loom and have run it to just behind the second row seats. It works well, my problem is installing the battery tray to mount the battery. There is nothing strong enough to screw/bolt to without taking the seats out. I basically only run a 45lt fridge with it.

The fridge will also need to be well tied down given its 30-40 kg weight. Have a look at using lap seat belts attached to the floor mountings for the car's seatbelts and seat mountings. There are a lot of bolts into the floor in this area.
