HID Headlamps

I have recently taken delivery of a 150TD VX with the HID headlamps. While I really appreciate the light on the road other drivers coming towards me seem to be regularly indicating that my low beam lights are annoying them - one semi gave me a full does of about 10 spots the other night for a few 100 metres totally blinding me. I have reported it to Toyota who say that the lights automatically level and cannot be lowered manually. Does anyone else have this problem or can anyone offer a solution?

I an pretty sure that they can be adjusted.

I see to remember a could of posts about adjusting HIDs on here previously.

You could always do what I did and add a bar, winch and 2nd battery ;-)

If you you don't want the hid lights I swap with you. I've got the gxl which doesn't come with them. Most of the flashers wish they had hid lights IMO.

My Kakadu is going in to a Toyota Service Centre (W.A.) on Monday 06/11/2010 for the headlight beam to be lowered. I am assured that they can be re-calibrated. There is another post on this website about high headlights.
Rumy had the same problem fixed by his Toyota Service Centre in Gladstone, Queensland. The full details are listed under "Kakadu - bright lights".

I'm not so sure there is anything wrong with the lights. I have people flashing me in both my BMW 330 CI and Prado VX. I think some people see brighter lights and instantly think the high beam is on. This is regardless of whether or not it is shining directly into their eyes. Anyway, all HID factory fitted lights are auto adjusting .

I had my HIDs adjusted at the last service and haven't been flashed since.

I was under the impression that autolevelling is a function that ensures the headlights always shine at the same angle relative to the road. This is to prevent the lights from shining too high when a load is put in the back.

But i could be wrong... :shock:

I don't know if anybody else has noticed it on their vx/kakadu but I've found the right headlight auto adjusts a fraction lower than the left. I'm assuming that this would be so ya don't get flashed by other drivers...
