Pat B , If you look in behind the RHS the wire is retained just remove it from the retainer and it has ample length.

It's been a while since my last post on PP. just replaced my 120 with a new 150 and are looking to update the stereo as I did with the last Prado.
Has anyone looked in the new pioneer units, more specifically the AVH-P8450BT (see link following). Since we use our iPhones for city navigation and iPad for Offroad, this pioneer unit appears perfect.

I have installed a extnix setup in my 2012 150 gx, I had to do some serious reworking of the plug kit to get it to work. Luckily my mate is a tech at Toyota to help me sort it out. I am fairly dissapointed with the radio reception with poor FM and no AM, does anyone have an suggestions to improve it using the factory antenna in the back window?
A question, do you have the back windows tinted, if it has been done with the regular metalised tint (99% of tints are) then that will effect the reception. 3M make a non metallic tint whoch I had put on and the reception wasn't effected at all.

The reception problem I have is only with the new radio. The factory Toyota one was pretty good for reception. The windows are tinted but I thought the new one would get at least as good as reception as the original. It is a good point though. When I put the bullbar on, I will try an antenna mounted on that to see if anything changes.
Andrew, I have the same problem. I believe Toyota in heir new 2012 model have changed the radio to the fakara plug. I have purchased a amplified one of these from eBay but I have not had a chance to try if it works or if it fits properly.

Hi Andrew,
Check to make sure that your new stereo is providing power to the factory antenna. I have the 2011 VX and the antenna adapter had a separate wire running alongside the antenna lead that needs to have 12 volt applied in order to give you maximum reception. If the antenna amp is not powered, you'll get no AM and poor FM.

Hi vxwesty that sounds like the same as I had, I did not use it, the new unit has a the single round plug which plugged into this unit. How did you get it from the factory square plug to the new unit round plug.
I was told it was a facara plug, so I got a facara plug to din converter.

I got my antenna adapter from a local car audio store here in Perth. I can't remember the part number, but it was specific to the VX model (the GXL uses a different antenna adapter). It wasn't a Fakra plug, it was rectangular with two square sockets next to each other with a small pin in between for the power wire - only one of the square sockets had a coax wire that ended with the normal Motorola style antenna plug for the aftermarket stereo.

Are the issues with the wiring in the 2012 only to do with the Antenna adapter?
I had the same issue in my last Lexus with the amplified antenna in the rear windscreen. Connected to the electric antenna output in the after market unit and it worked fine.
