What aftermarket radios will fit the top-slot of the 150 ?

Is the top screen a touch screen?
If so is it easier to use the the nobs on the bottom as I find it very hard to use Ipod controls in the bottom section.

thread for reversing camera

There's a thread detailing a mod (very easy), where you have a switch which selects the rear camera anytime, not just when in reverse gear.
Handy for keeping an eye on whatever you are towing.

I looked at keeping the hazard switch on the right, but as you say, easy access to the mem card is lost, as well as the port for the ipod cable.
As for the original USB socket, I'm just going to cut and join to one of the 2 USB cables coming from the player.

There are 2 versions of the mod. The second one is the better in my opinion, but they both do the same job.

Did you end up selling your VX unit? I have finally been given approval from the wife to buy one and would be keen in yours, if not could you please let me know which one you purchased? Mine only needs one hole for the hazard light switch as the front and rear sensors are displayed in the driver display area.

This is the one that I am looking at

It appears to only have one spot for the Hazard light switch...

Sorry, but I ended up returning it via a PayPal dispute with the seller. He didn't like it one little bit, but I got my money back in the end. It's the same vendor as the one your link shows, but don't worry, others have bought from him and got the correct unit. The one displayed in the link looks like the one you're after and won't have an amp built into the player, as the vx already has a separate amp.

If you're getting the GPS mapping as well, it appears to be a cracked version of iGO passed off as a demo version, but it will run ok. I've since updated mine to the latest version and also added the speedo file as the original only had average speed and max speed, but no current speed. Not a biggie but I'm just used to having it from my old Garmin unit.

Thanks for the reply, did you have to request the GPS map or did it just come with the unit? The way the spec read is thought it comes with it. I was planning to order it tonight so I will just make sure I add the map details? Thanks again for your help.

Edit that, thanks I found the SD card and ordered the GPS. Fingers crossed all will be good or I will have one angry heavily pregnant lady to contend with... Thanks.

Well my order with Trade Solutions has just gone to crap, they no longer sell the 2 piece section but do not tell you that til you order it and then battle with you because they cannot understand why you do not want a non functioning CD changer left in your car if there new unit is better. The Toyota Storage Pocket Console is $460.00 that is in the GX so it made a $500.00 unit a $1000.00, no thanks. Now the battle begins to get my money back for something they have not sent yet... Edit that - They have actually been prompt in the refund, they did not want to do it but I now have the money back in my account.

Back to my hunt to find the C8011TP now...

Have a look at the Clarion NX501A unit. It is not cheap as it is $2,000, but it has all of the gadgets. The screen is about 14 x 8 cm, so it will not fit most Prado units. It means having a dash mount purchased and fitted, possibly from the Kakadu model, but most parts are hard to obtain at present from Japan.

Hi my unit works fine with Garmin Navigator, Tradesolution send me the unit without GPS software on the SD card... I bought the IGO from TS, but here in Peru we dont have maps for IGO8... so I searched a lot for a Garmin software for this unit, but many doesnt run... PS: The SD card must be named as StorageCard (not sdmmc or other) and you must put the download information on a Garmin carpet

Sorry to hear that, you could try http://www.carpcdvd.com they have been quite good. I bought a second unit from them (for a mate), they asked me which face plate I had, so that means they have the one you're after. Just make sure you get the model "for Prado with original amplifier" which will suit your VX.

Thanks Yowie, I have my heart set on the C8011TP, just looks like it is meant to be part of the car and I get to keep the same layout with the DVD player below the climate control.

Well I found the C8011TP GPS from a local Australian company now selling these units. A little more expensive then I wanted to pay but I am happy as they offer a full money back guarantee, 1 year warranty, local installation in Brisbane and Melbourne, Digital TV Tuner and iGo 8 2011 Maps. I managed to pick it up for $850.00 delivered. With the digital TV option this is about $250.00 more then what I could have got it for $650 - $700.00 by ordering it from China however I am happy with the local back up and support. Will let you know when it arrives and also take some photos of the installation process. I have posted Asad's details below for you. if you search 'Prado 150 GPS' on ebay you will see what he is selling as his web store is not loaded yet. Very happy with the response from him.

Thank you for getting back to me on this.

$850 Delivered is ok. First thing to know is that only feature on the from the current top part which you can use in future will be the reverse camera and Hazard switch.

All other options that you have from DISP/up/Down/Reset/Mode buttons will be lost as they cannot be transferred to the aftermarket unit. (This is the very important bit). So you have decide if loosing this functionality will be worth it, especially at the time of selling your Prado and/or if will it void the warranty of your car in any way.

Unit come in 4 options,
1) Small hazard hole with built-in Amp
2) Small Hazard hole without built in Amp - VX Models
3) Large hazard hole with built-in Amp - GXL Models
4) Large hazard hole without built-in Amp

That's a great find, at a reasonable price. There was an article in last weeks carsguide (herald), saying that VMS will also be carrying this unit, but at an rrp of $2,495. Maybe there's will have the hazard switch on the right and be truly plug and play, we'll have to wait and see.

I had a look at Extreme Electronix on ebay, I think he'll have to rework his descrptions, as they are totally confusing. He states that the 4 units are all for the GXL but with big or small hole on front panel and with or without original amplifier. When actually all gxls only have the large hole and no original amplifier in the car. To make it worse, all the pics show the model with the built-in amp and the large hole. O.k. for those of us who have already done our research, but not good for those that haven't. Anyway, it's great that there is a local supplier with local backup, hopefully he'll have some spare parts backup as well, as that large screen could easily be scratched or damaged.

Looking forward to seeing your follow-up report. Oh, and let us know if the digital tv tuner is hi def or std. The one I got was std, so I miss out on half of the freeview channels.
