    Part 3
Installing Replacement head Unit Toyota Prado 150 GXL - C8013TP Large

    9. Connector plugs into rear of upper unit and the other end plugs into the rear of the lower unit.

    10.
A – 2 sockets plug into existing vehicle plugs. Also has F-Cam (front camera) 12V power (green wire).
GXL unit comes with F-CAM button on front of unit that is a push-on/push-off function when an optional camera is installed.
B – 1 socket that plug into existing vehicle plug.
Has CCD 12V (yellow wire), which provides constant 12V to rear camera when vehicle is on. (I did not use this to power the reverse camera, as I didn’t want the camera powered all the time.) Also has TV 12V (blue wire)

    11.
Video – Contains all RCA plugs for TV, CCD, Front Camera and Video out.
Green wire is the brake wire. This wire is recommended to be connected to the handbrake so that DVD’s can only be watched when the vehicle is stationary. This can be hooked up to a constant earth for operation anytime.
The Blue wire is the Reverse trigger that activates the unit to switch to the Rear Camera (CCD) input.

    12. Extend the Reverse trigger (blue wire) and the Brake wire (green wire). An RCA plug was made for connection to the Factory fitted Reverse camera.

I accept no responsibility for any damage caused.

      Part 4
Installing Replacement head Unit Toyota Prado 150 GXL - C8013TP Large

      13. Locate the screen wiring loom. The wires in this loom that will be used are the factory fitted Reverse camera signal and power and the Reverse power from the vehicle.
The Reverse power is the red wire 2nd from the end of the edge of the plug next to the white wire. This is the wire that I used to power the camera as well as trigger the head unit to switch to the reverse camera input (CCD).

      14. In this wiring loom unwrap and locate the black sheathed cables; this sheath contains the reverse camera wires.
      Red – Video signal
Purple (black tape) – Video Shield
      Black – Reverse camera positive
      White – Not used.

      15. This diagram shows the wiring looms A and B connected; there are two factory plugs that do not connect to anything. This is correct and is not required. Tuck these in behind the dash out of the way.

      16. I hold no responsibility in any actions or work you perform or have performed on your vehicle.
You are responsible for cutting or having cut any factory looms or wiring in your vehicle. This may void your warranty. I accept no responsibility for any damage caused.

These steps are just showing what actions I took. I cut the wires identified in Step 14. Insulated the wires at the plug end and connected (soldered and heat shrinked) the purple and red wires to the RCA cable that was prepared in Step 12. This RCA plug wiring was then connected to the RCA socket in the Video Loom (Step 11). I connected the Brake (green wire) to a constant earth so that DVD would function always.

Installing Replacement head Unit Toyota Prado 150 GXL - C8013TP Large

        17. I hold no responsibility in any actions or work you perform or have performed on your vehicle.
You are responsible for cutting or having cut any factory looms or wiring in your vehicle. This may void your warranty. I accept no responsibility for any damage caused.

I then cut the vehicle Reverse positive cable (red wire) as outlined in Step 13 and insulated the wire at the plug end. This vehicle positive is only active when reverse is selected.
The Reverse trigger to the Head unit (blue wire) as outlined in Step 12 and the Vehicle's factory fitted Reverse camera positive (black wire) as outlined in Step 14 are connected together to the vehicle's factory reverse positive (red wire - Step 13) This connection of the three wires was soldered and heat shrinked. The left over white wire was insulated.

        18. The working factory installed Reverse Camera after this modification was completed.

        19. The GPS antenna was connected to the connector on the upper unit and then placed under the plastic dash for secreted installation and quality performance. The GPS antenna works well through plastic.
The iPod cable was connected and run into the glove box with the USB cables.

I will update some pictures of the completed unit operating. If you have any questions just ask.

No worries, you can tell her that my Mrs loves the extra large reverse screen and the ipod in the glovebox not to mention having GPS when she needs it and a DVD player for the kids.

Top job Paul, I should put in a couple of extra notes for the VX if you don't mind, such as the different connectors, antenna location due to the centre speaker and so on. Will give you a call today as well mate, crap day at work yesterday and was over it when you called...

                Daniel,
Definately put up the differences in the VX install. If you want I can send you the link to my photos if you wanted to use them as comparison shots. If I hadn't have been pressed for time when I did the install I would have taken more photos. Still trying to chase down a LHD switch, if I can get one I think I'll buy a couple.

                  Hi Paul

Great instructions, after the winch purchase (bloody Snaga got mine at the GTG!), that's my next mod. Also I can imagine you scooting down the street in those blue roller blades of yours in your photo.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

                    Richo,

Winch will be my next purchase as well as some under body protection. What winch are you looking at? When you do this mod give me a yell, I've got the other end of the RCA cable from my install you can use.

And the blue inline skates, I wish I was that coordinated - kids never get their stuff out of the car! Good observation skills though, I'll have to start planting items in photos to see if you pick up on them.

                      Hi Paul

I'm leaning to the Mako Avenger as I want rope not cable and they are the lightest at 27kgs. Like most winches I plan on using it as little as possible just a bit of extra insurance for when LFAR takes us down side tracks on GTG recces

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

                      • WOW, thanks for the writup.

1 Question, does this unit also display all the information that is currently on the LCD screen? (ie outside temp, fuel, averages.....etc)?

                        Comment

                        • No it doesn't display these but these readings are displayed on the LCD panel in the instrument cluster. Outside temp, current fuel usage, average fuel usage, average speed, distance until empty are some of the ones I believe are there.

                          • GPS looks great

Thinking of getting one, could you tell me if the phone controls still work on the steering wheel and if the wiring was long enough for the hazard switch etc to swap sides?

                            thanks

                            Comment

                            • Phone controls work as normal, if you have a VX the voice control acts as a stereo mute button.
