My engine chipping experience so far

Have already fitted new exhaust which has helped. Now just have to convince Chip-It that both products they sent were faulty and they should refund the money. Will not be buying another one after this experience!

A few days ago a new one arrived complete with new wiring loom. I installed the loom and plugged in the module, first thing I noticed was the smoke coming out of the module. Disconnected the module and plugged in the blanking plug but the car won't start. Spoke to Chip-It again on the phone and the guy got me to check the plugs etc and then asked me to take photos of the plugs in the loom because the wires may not have been put in the correct place. This is all well and good except with the loom out of the car and all the factory plugs re-connected the car still won't start. 4Lo flashes indicating a fault code but the OBD scanner I have will no longer recognise the ECU. The only other noticable thing is an solenoid or actuator on the intake pipe which looks like it could be the butterfly control continues to click on and off. Now Im stuck with a vehicle I cant use and have to get it towed to Toyota in a weeks time to see if the ECU has been fried. Not very happy at all with Chip-It!
As I have said and as Roo has said an exhaust system is the go......leave the chip alone. All I read from people who have fitted chips is problems. The exhaust system is going to give you about 10 per cent more power anyhow.

Hi Flash01, I have had exactly the same experience as you with the same dealer with my 2009 D4D. However I bought the Chip It direct and had the Caloundra dealer install it and the EGT and have it Dyna tuned. It was custom tuned. I had two issues with the dreaded error lights but the dealer was helpful and wanted to solve the problem which he did by backing off his custom tune. That was in October and I am still touching wood! I am now considering adding the Terrain Tamer Fuel Manager as reading the other posts about faulty injectors and bad fuel is quite scary!Originally posted by flash01 View PostMy ChiP It experience:
Fitted to D4d in late November in Caloundra including dyno tuning. Went like a rocket ship and got amazing fuel economy. Lasted 2 days before the dreaded LO4 error light. Took it back, said he fixed it but same result. Got back to home town and had to badger the dealer into getting the bloke in my town who is a dealer to assist. The local bloke was brilliant taking on a problem that was not his. Old chip out, new chip in same result. Original dealer not interested at all and strangely silent except for refusing to refund any money. Got the sh.ts and contacted Chip It themselves. Well what a change in attitude. They could not do enough to fix the issue. They spent a full week working on the D4d issue and got it fixed. New chip arrived with a dual tune (highly recommended if you are like me and don't like messing around with laptops and engines) and is running fine (still only 2 days though). Only down side is the new tunes are significantly down on power and torque than the original dyno tune. For piece of mind I'll put up with that.....maybe.
Lessons: Deal with Chip It in WA, forget their dealers. Fit it yourself, it is so simple. Be prepared to ask, Chip It really do want to have their customers satisfied.

there is a supid black plastic cover on the front of the block in the way... Could be challenging.
All done, minus a bit of skin on the knuckles...
after 45mins of trying.. then checking the instructions again i got out the tinsnips and cut the top lug off as shown.. straight in..

Hooked up, was simple as. Feels good plenty more power. Only running on the tune that come on it. Haven't fitted the blanking plate yet waiting for the engine bay to cool down and working out an attack plan.
