Barry
Honestly didnt even look, when i looked over my shoulder and four lanes of peak hour traffic was just released from a red light i shit grabbed the scanguage (which wasnt plugged in) fumbled around and just cleared it as soon as poss, im guessing it would have been fuel rail pressure as it was when i came off pedal and then went to accelerate again. In that circumstance it hasn't happened for a long time though, but thats just it, when you least expect it.
I drove it to sydney and tamworth recently doing about 2500ks in a weekend whilst towing about 1500kgs and I didnt have an issue whatsoever so was very happy even overtaking folks up hill (i was by myself and drove hard the whole time) so its this inconsistancy that gets me

I must be one of the lucky ones. What fault code was produced Largeinaprado?

Ive had mine now for say 18 months?? at least.
I put a switch on the power side so i can run with it or without it as it has been so problematic. Just this morning it wouldnt start and then turning onto a 4 lane motorway at some lights went into limp mode as i came up to the lights, car completely cut out just as i got across two lanes, leaving me stuck with the arse of the prado across the road. Quickly cleared the code and got going. Havent had an issue in a while, but to be honest i run with it off most of the time as it scares me at times, like this morning. I certainly do not run it with the family in the car.
This is already my second chip and wiring loom maybe its time for a third?

No worries, thanks for the feedback.
I'll come down and see you guys when I back next to see about fitting costs to a 150 with EGT kit.
Cheers

no failures ... even with the older type we were using (open end type). Now we use a sealed end so that it is more resistant to heat. But like i said ... no failures to date because of heat. Had 2 or 3 (over many hundreds sold) due to ... well due to just not working. But we replaced and off it went.
Sorry, no direct experience with just removing the muffler. Heard about people doing it and getting pretty good results. If I were doing this the replacement part would be made for 3" pipe with smaller flanges so that if you where not happy enough you could just cut off the flanges and put in a full 3" system. Just my thoughts.

Heya,
Sorry a few more questions:
Do the EGT sensors last for a long time? Have you had many fail?
Also, on other threads on this forum guys have been replacing the middle muffler on 150's, have you seen or had any experience with this mod?
Cheers
Dave

yes ... we have a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation or injector style) chip. It will, on average, produce about 5% more power than the other brand ... probably based on tuning but I am not sure why. The Injector Chip WITH a fuel rail chip will haul ass. Power a plenty. This is because the fuel rail can only do so much. Then again the Injector style chip only has a limited amount of play before black smoke occurs. The benefit of both is that you dont need to go too high with either chip to make serious power. Say tune 9 on the fuel rail chip and mid way on the injector chip. Some folks on here accepted a PWM chip in lieu of the fuel rail chip when we had issues with the chip on the Prado 150. They tell of pretty good results.
If people with to understand more about modifying the PWM signal ask away. Its simple enough to explain.
Price is $1349.00 retail.
The fuel limiter billet is a blank. no pressure relief. The pressure limiter on the common rail is to stop people like us from getting high tunes into the vehicles. We have run 3 x the pressure on our test vehicles and only one had a slight leak out of the injector line (not the injector ... just the line that mates into the injector). That was on a 3.0 litre CR Patrol (i think it was a 2009 model ... actually one of our dealers cars). He replaced the injector seal (little O rubber ring) and the leak stopped. He also told us that he knew that these cars do leak around the injectors so he was not sure if the seal was bad to begin with.
We do have a hi-spec fuel limiter. It opens at around 35,000 psi. (stock is around 20-25,000 psi)
We dont go anywhere near double the standard pressures. No chip does. Probably around 18% higher only is where we sit on the higher tunes.
We honestly have hundreds of the billet limiters out there. No problems what so ever.
HOWEVER, the Hilux, Prado Common Rail Fuel limiter is very good in standard trim and the billet limiters are not made for the D4D as the D4D common rail has a feed back sensor to tell ECU when it has opened. So the best we were doing on these was to shim the original.
Like I said, unless you are going really high in the tunes, say tunes 10 -15 you would not need one and if you do wish to go that high we only do the shim on cars we do in our workshop (a little lie here as we have an overseas workshop that always begs us for them to be sent with the order
Reason we dont include these shims (for the D4D) anymore with mail out orders is because it can be a darn tight bolt to do up ... I mean REALLY tight. (approx. 150NM of force on torque wrench) and the average guy just want be able to reach in under the manifold and contort their arm near to the firewall and do the sucker up. Also the sensor plug will rotate around since the shim is taking up some thread space and people were complaining that it was too hard to put back on. We can do it. Same with our better dealers, but not for the faint hearted.
For other Denso or Bosch style fuel rails we do use and sell the billet limiters.Last edited by Chip It; 14-05-2012, 06:14 PM.

This thread is about Chip It chips and the experience of those that have them or are interested. You mark360 have never been in this camp and you will never be a customer of mine ... not whilst i'm alive ... not even if you were to pay double. Mods please assist

Chip-It, you mention you guys also offer a steinbauer type chip now ie; a PWM type. Have you heard off anyone running both and are there any power gains to be had or will it just be an over fuelled soot blowing monster? Also what are the prices of this type of chip? I'm also interested in the high spec fuel limiters, how much more psi does it take to open one of these bad boys?

to help admins with wooley's post, here is what he had to say as a final remark on PM.

Given he still pipes up about not having his questions answered seems incredulous.Last edited by Piggy; 15-05-2012, 05:57 PM.
