  • Had my chipit installed, engine error light comes on each time I start the car. Yesterday the lights came on while I was driving and I had no throttle, bit dangerous when you are flying along in the traffic, quickly selected neutral and restarted the car and all was fine. Sent a message to support at Chipit today, I will let you know the outcome.

      • Hi Rexie.

Sorry, are you saying that AFTER you clear the code and fit the 22 pin plug the code still comes up?

        If so, it means

        1) the harness is not installed correctly (maybe not pushed on properly)

        2) some wire not making contact within the harness (our manufacturing defect or installer pulled on the wires and pull one out from the pin)

        3) or the car has another issue unrelated to the Chip. (Head down to Toyota) The code you gave me is not a code actually. One of the reasons I don't like the ScanGauge. They give crazy CEL codes. I have a unit and for $129.00 it actually tells you the meaning or description of the code. ie P0299 (Turbo Under Boost). It has given me the codes where the scan gauge has not.

To prove the points 123 above, please remove the harness and run factory stock for a while and see if you can replicate the CEL without the harness. If you do still have a problem, it means there is another issue, i.e. not Chip related or at least not attributed to the Chip ... possibly installer error.

If it doesn't throw a code then the harness is faulty or the harness was not installed right.

If its the harness I will need to get it back from you (not the EGT Controller part ... just the harness)

I will have to check to see what the issue is with it. Sounds at this stage to be a wire partly pulled out from the pins. Most fitters will know not to pull the harness to get plugs off but still some do. (ie you should pull on the plug ... not the wires)

Feel free to call me on 0412 304030 to discuss.

        Cheers

        Robert

UPDATE: IT WAS THE HARNESS. Not the Chip. Human error on either our part or the installer. Regardless, its covered under warranty. This is another reason to by locally. Support. Everyone can stuff up but the after sales support is where the rubber meets the road in my opinion

PS. no pun intended but topical

          Tune 5.

After disconnecting the harness the engine light problem as gone away. It is not the chip but a problem either with a plug on the Prado on the harness itself. Robert from Chipit has been great and we are trying the harness first.

I must say that driving the Prado without the chip makes it feel like a slug now. Can't wait to get it back in.

            • Question for Robert @Chipit. I have been interested in some sort of performance/economy gains for my 150 Prado since I purchased it in 2010, and have been watching the progress on here and elsewhere about various chips and modules. My question is, have Chipit changed their chip to a module? What is the difference from The Chipit chip and Chipit performance module? Or is it the same thing with a different name? Looking forward to your response. I see on your website under the Prado page tests were done in conjunction with a Steinbaurer as well. Two add ons together. Is it possible for Chipit to produce a product which combines the two products into one eliminating the need for two?? Kind regards

              • Installed my Chip IT module on my 2009 120 series Prado. It now goes like a shower of sh#t

Very quick install. Just connect two plugs, the hardest one being the common rail fuel sensor. The longest part of the install was making the cabling neat.

Just out of interest can people provide photos of where they mounted their chip. Mine is currently velcro behind the fuel filter.

Just have to wait for my 3in exhaust to arrive.

                • I'm planning to install the EGT sensor next weekend.

Looking at the guide it looks like the easiest option is to drill a hole in the exhaust below the turbo getting access from under the drivers side guard, is that correct?

Any tips from someone who has installed the sensor?

                  • G'day guys put the ChipIT chip in about 6 weeks ago now. Prior to installation, my car was running at 13.4ltrs per 100km's. Since the installation and 3 tanks of juice, consumption has dropped down to a pretty constant 10ltrs per 100km's.

Each tank has had a mix of highway and around town driving..... Have only had it on Tune 6 but on the next fill I will change to another to see the difference.

Havent had a chance to put the ECG plate in yet... need to get another joint in the wrists for that one.....

Power increase is noticeable but I need to play around with the tunes and then go back to the factory tune.... to realise just how much.
Was very easy to install despite having to do a bit of wrist yoga to get the rail plug off...

All in all very happy so far.

There is no difference between a chip and a module. It is just great marketing with that other company that want to say "DON'T INSTALL A CHIP ... WE SELL MODULES NOT CHIPS ... BUY OURS"

                        It is just scare tactics.

If you prefer to call ours a module feel free. In fact, in some posts and on some areas of the Chip It web site I call it a module.

Regarding your last question, yes we are building one. It is not for the faint hearted both price and performance wise. Most people will be still using the standard chip we make. It makes plenty of power in standard Chip It trim.

                        • @ Sunwal072

We have a product that's available to do what you're asking already have had it for a while. There isn't much need for it though, Boost + changing fuel is more then enough. If you're planning on racing it I would suggest doing a turbo upgrade and installing a product such as ours that is able to alter injection parameters as well as stabilizing rail pressures at higher RPM's i.e if you change the injection to much you will get a decrease in rail pressure, with our chip we are able to look at what the car is meant to have @ 3500RPM and alter the rail pressure at that RPM to make sure it does not drop below what it is standard...

Hope that makes sense to you.

In terms of difference between chip and module, it comes down to production. Chips were originally engineered for EFI fuel pumps to plug into the fuel pumps, modules were designed for common rail diesels to plug into the injectors. So in modern terms a chip plugs onto the rail pressure sensor and a module plugs into the injectors. At the end of the day they have PCB's with components soldered onto them so you can call them what ever you want and everyone will understand what you're saying hahaha

which one you chose to put onto your car is entirely up to you lots of information around on the internet about different products and how they work and if you have any questions about our products feel free to send me a PM and ill see what I can do.

                          Cheers,
                          Adam
