    • I am contemplating a chip/module for our Prado, hopefully to improve the fuel economy when towing a camper. The dyno graphs shown on the ChipIt web site look impressive, but appear to start at about 2000rpm and go up from there, and obviously show WOT results. I suspect that the majority of my driving is either 100kph cruising (with or without cruise control) or below 2000rpm - out here there is little other traffic to race with so we don't bother with the CBD "point to point"!

Will a chip make any difference to economy under light throttle "relaxed" driving conditions?

I would hate to take my chip off towing my camper. If you have an auto as I do and tow in 4th it will doing more than 2000rpm.
When towing my camper I am returning 14lt/100km the trailer weighs in at 1.25 ton thats wet with a tinnie on top.

            • Took my Chipit out today as I am getting the 40K service done on Thursday and went for a drive. What a difference, cant wait to put the chip back on Friday.

Yes, I have been assured by service manager that valve clearances will be checked after leaving the Prado over night. Hopefully the results are provided like I have requested for future reference.

Agree. That's why we need a diesel fuel cooler.

                    • Hooked up, was simple as. Feels good plenty more power. Only running on the tune that come on it. Haven't fitted the blanking plate yet waiting for the engine bay to cool down and working out an attack plan.

                            • My ChiP It experience:
Fitted to D4d in late November in Caloundra including dyno tuning. Went like a rocket ship and got amazing fuel economy. Lasted 2 days before the dreaded LO4 error light. Took it back, said he fixed it but same result. Got back to home town and had to badger the dealer into getting the bloke in my town who is a dealer to assist. The local bloke was brilliant taking on a problem that was not his. Old chip out, new chip in same result. Original dealer not interested at all and strangely silent except for refusing to refund any money. Got the sh.ts and contacted Chip It themselves. Well what a change in attitude. They could not do enough to fix the issue. They spent a full week working on the D4d issue and got it fixed. New chip arrived with a dual tune (highly recommended if you are like me and don't like messing around with laptops and engines) and is running fine (still only 2 days though). Only down side is the new tunes are significantly down on power and torque than the original dyno tune. For piece of mind I'll put up with that.....maybe.
Lessons: Deal with Chip It in WA, forget their dealers. Fit it yourself, it is so simple. Be prepared to ask, Chip It really do want to have their customers satisfied.
