  • MLC,

I thank you for your most colourful response, and agree you seem to be very happy with the chip you have purchased. I know myself I was in amazement when you spun all 4 wheels after the install, and had to come back and change your jocks! But as you say, the Prado has an ECU which is built the same(for not so eductated, I would assume a 120 is the same in all D4D 120 series, and there may be some tweaks for the 150 series, but in general they ar ethe same, so why is it that all these people are experiencing issues with the Chip-it chip?
I am also amazed, that is seems only to be Chip-it who it coping flack, if as he points out, all other(Roo Systems, TunIt and DP) work the same. Do these chips cause the same issues we are hearing here???

Maybe we need to hear of issues relating to those other brands of chips.

    Only my view

You shit yourself once, just once, when the diesel Prado hits Mach-3 in 4 seconds and no one lets you forget........luckily I had the chutes attached from the old drag car and slipped on my old FA18 Hornet helmet just in case....I was differentiating (for you Dave that means saying there is a difference) between the ECU in a Prado compared to a Hilux. The problems they have experienced are predominantly in the Prado, but I take your point that each Prado (120) ecu is likely to be the same, although not relevant to the point. You have been drinking with Doctor Z again haven't you! (Dave, predominantly means mainly, or more frequently to a higher degree in a subset than across the whole group). By the way Dave, one of those hills I referred to where I got up with trailer in tow was apparently too hard for a 150 driver!. Now some say it is skill, but I maintain the chip played a big part in my 120 with trailer in tow making it where the 150 with no trailer, no passengers and only half the gear and an amateur driver full of non believable excuses failed. mlc - keeping it real.

        • REV, I will have you know that the track was sabotaged, and as a result I ran a recovery training session! I am glad all my team came to assist and learn in the useful techniques displayed.

Thanks Dave, now everybody knows it was you . I was only remembering how well my chip went on the border track, the whole trip actually.

            • If I recall correctly, MLC with his chipped engine still needed Maxtrax to make it over the biggest dune towing his camper, seems my unchipped Prado also towing a trailer made it over no problems, oh and Rev, didn't you have an issue trying to follow me in your chipped Prado, had to back down and take the chicken track, sound familiar. I guess it's the driver that makes the difference, not the chip

              Cheers Andrew

                      • small world... everyone seems to know you Mic.

BTW, when I mentioned those chips are all the same, I meant, all the same as each other, all made by the same factory. Chip It are the only Chips made by an Aussie company here in Australia. Re Toyota and diesel Chips: one dealer in QLD left the DP Chip fold because they were having troubles with 70 Series V8s and Prados. (low fuel pressure and hard to start) (that was a time when Chip It were not having issues!) Then there was an ECU change or the Chip set / frequency rate was changed in the Prado??? (guessing here) and we started having issues.

All I know is that the Prado does not like a voltage offset and correlation between CR Sensor voltage and ECU voltage has to be perfect. If the battery voltage was down, the Prado would not start. If a Chip was connected to the secondary batter and it was low, it would not start. Put the car on a battery charger and it started 100%, every time. If we took 12 volts power the run the Chip from the battery (Pos and Neg) some Prados experienced this low fuel pressure warning (not really a low fuel pressure issue at all, just voltage correlation). So right now, we are trying 12 volts Pos from the Battery and 12 volts Neg from the Rail Sensor. This seems to work.

All new Chips, or any warranty Chips, are getting this upgraded feature and even on problematic vehicles it seems to work.

Yes, its been painful and very very disappointing for us (and customers) but we are not running away from it. We are here to help where we can, and as seen by recent testimonials we sometimes get it right even.

We trust we are at the end of this phase too. We have a top product, and as Mic mentions we are super keen enthusiasts with a passion for the diesel performance industry, have more features and benefits than the opposition hands down and are cheaper. A Fuel only Chip $1499 or ours with Fuel and Turbo and EGT Control $1399. So we just need to sort this mess and get the unhappy customer back on track with the new iteration. And then feedback is vital.

BTW, you know we made an Steinbuayer type Injector Chip just for this Common Rail Sensor voltage Correlation issue. The Dominator 2 was a birth at out this Prado dilemma. So we have a Dom1 and Dom2 now. And with a Dom1 and Dom2 we made another Chip called the Dom 3. It does Rail, Injector and Boost tuning.

At the bottom of the page linked here you will see the 3 types and what they do.

I am happy to run it free of charge, report back to all about my experience, and then provide all with a professional and satisfactory report on the handling and hopefully no issues.
