Don't go looking for rattles
It's all in your head.
Sure the odd engine has an injector issue but your driving a diesel they rattle
All direct injection diesels rattle when cold then warm up all good.
If you have owned petrol engines prior then I understand your concern but really move on

Pradodiesel there are enough people who have had real injector problems to suggest that a problem may become manifest with any D4D Prado. The only real test is that done with the appropriate scan tool. If you are concerned then get the injectors tested. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

I think you mean there is a number of people who think they have had an injector problem.
There are thousands of D4D engines in Australia , mining etc vehicles.
If there were that many issues they wouldn't be selling so many.
It's all in your heads, with the exception of a very few minor isolated cases.TJM13 bar, TJM XGS gold 2inch lift, Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 rib, DP chip, Twin Batteries, Safari Snorkel, Diff Breathers.

By the way "a very few" means how many exactly? 5? 50? 500? Just hope you are not one of the few.My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

Toyota customer relations far from it.
Toyota are a pack of &&@holes as far I am concerned.
There have been many issues with my 150 that i fixed myself etc.
All I am saying is some people get it in their head that they have an issue that doesn't exist.
Reading too many forums does this to you.
Get your injectors checked thats all good.
Not sure how the dealer can check them properly but they can look at the engine and say they seem good. WTF

Have found this thread hard to follow at times.
All I can say is that got my 150 D4D, last week of Nov 11.
It has become bloody noisy with rattles, at 9.4k now & this is cold & hot.
Have had toyota's 70, 80 & 100 series & they have been much quiter than this.
I think I have a few questions to ask, or do I just say.........new injectors..(please)

I have been into toyota but my rattle comes and goes. When it is there you can here it clear as day and is different to the cold start noisey engine (which it does too). At about 1500rpm on a very light throttle it sounds exactly as Roo has described above. Sometimes when it is idling it starts oing it as well. I rang toyota when it first started happening as it sounded like something was seriously wrong and I would't make it further without damaging the engine. They were not concerned just said bring it in and we'll check the injector values. By the time the service was due it was no longer making the noise, even though they had the car in the night before so they could listen to it first thing in the morning. Of course they came back and said the injector values were fine... Really? I love the car and am concerned about other damage it could do to it by not having the issue adressed. At this stage they'll limp me past the 100,000km mark and then it is my problem.
Has any one actually had any injectors found to be faulty in the 150 D4D yet and had them replaced?

Whilst speaking with one of the service guys in the service dept on Wednesday, he made an interesting comment whilst we were speaking about the injector issues, he commented that he has seen that many hilux and prado's with injector issues that it's not funny, we had a talk about the old injectors on the earlier D4D prado's/ hiluxes and the newer supposedly better injectors. They were however a bit surprised that my no 4 injector failed so soon after all being replaced but was also of the understanding that these are still mass produced and they will ofcourse still have issues. I myself am a bit concerned, I love my prado, I have about two years left of my extended warranty, but I'm now thinking what happens when that runs out. And if I have anymore injector issues, I really dont want to be paying to continually replace these. Especially when my prado is on its second set of injectors, soon to be third and I have done under 85k. I'm starting to think maybe going back to a petrol engine mightn't be a bad idea. My car is serviced every 10,000k by my mech and 5,000k by me. So it's got a good service history. Just not confidence inspiring, this dealership seem to be fairly honest after my initial issues, they all know me by name now (good or bad thing)?? But they also know that I don't settle for anything less than top notch. Plus being in mackay they would deal weigh a bucket load of mining vehicles,2008 120 Series 3lt D4D TD Prado GX, With to many bits to list :-) and more to come!!

Experienced this twice (fortunately not in my vehicles) 1st was a hilux ute (mining hire car), second was a mining 120, both D4D's, one in a WA iron ore mine, the other in a QLD coal mine used by a shiny bum.
Both sounded like someone in the engine bay taking the engine apart with a hammer, both from start up until warmed up, neither with chips.
Both fixed by replacement of injectors.
Diesels are notoriously noisy, but if you start to get this rattle you will be in no doubt about it.Kev,
