3 inch isnt needed. I've got 2.5" Beaudesert and its more than enough although on long trips the drone is slightly noticable.

Maybe switch the original engine for an N14. You may need to cut into the firewall.

600hp signature would go alright. maybe the 6.7L dodge engine could be squeezed in if I remove the guards

Mine is very quite.. Muffler shops like to over their arses a lot with warnings like that

so what's the consensus then? Only changing the muffler and maybe a chip will have the most significant gains?

Changing the entire exhaust to a 2.75 inch may only be marginally better than the muffler only exchange?

Well I did it and this is my opinion, read only my opinion....

                1. Swap out the muffler. Total approx price $200 maximum.. See what you think of the results.

                2. Fit a chip along with the muffler change.. see what you think of the results.

It's all about bang for your bucks. I would stray away from a full 3 inch set up (only again, only my 2 cents worth), a quality 2.75 inch set up with free flowing dump pipe arrangement would be great, but I have spent all my bickies for now

Once again, only my 2 cents worth...

I am with Matt. I just added a cheep straight though muffler and I am very happy with the results.

In a couple of months I am going on a trip with another 150 that has a full 3 inch system at which time I will compare further.

Likewise for me, replace the muffler, if you don't like it, replace the system. If you feel the need drop the cash for a chip.
I'm personally happy with the cost/ benefit return just doing the muffler, means I have in the vicinity of 3-4k by not doing the system and chip to spend on other goodies and more importantly, happy wife, happy life

The only way to determine an accurate set of data would be to have an independent specialist test the same vehicle on the same dyno, but with all of the above exhaust options in sequence. Of course, a much larger sample group would be needed to prove the results.
Until then, we are all just working on seat-of-the-pants conjecture.

agree Greg......one of the magazines should have an unbiased shootout!

Any recommendations for muffler brand, shop in Sydney?

Change the muffler. I went with the Redback as mentioned. Power increase is great and fuel has dropped about 0.7 per 100 and the drone is no longer there at 1400 rpm. The engine now holds the gears so much better. When i got home did not tell the wife it was done. Next day went out after some driving put the boot into like you do she looked and said whats different. Car seems faster. I then confussed

Interested to hear that the change in muffler altered the 1400 rpm drone. Did it eliminate the drone/vibration completely or change the intensity? I've gone through the "krypto" fix and the ecu reprogram trying to eliminate the 1500 drone but felt that it is all about engine dynamics , so maybe a change in exhaust back pressure might help. This car is so quiet at 100 kph, i just want it to be as quiet at 80 kph. Did the redback muffler increase the exhaust noise inside the vehicle at all?

I have a Lukey straight through and found that the noise inside is slightly louder, especially under load, nothing over the top, but still louder than stock, however, and this is purely my opinion, the benefits outweigh the slight increase in noise, in fact I reckon the noise is better than stock.
Up to you, but i would recommend the mod as a cheap gain for little pain.

                                Hi all,

does anyone know a good exhaust place in outer east or sth east Melbourne to do the straight thru muffler mod. I have been to Ringwood Performance Exhaust and a few others and all they want to do is sell me a full system which I don't want.

                                Thanks in advance.
