Ive had more brands than most , on a variety of vehicles

Steinbauer - Navara D40 - went well but blew black smoke under every style of tune - my tuner gave up and ripped it off in the end.
DP Chip - Navara D40 x 2 - simple plug and play , huge throttle response difference , did what it said , no issues .
Chip It - Navara D40 - after wiring the thing up as per the diagram ,.. that started the stress levels going , vehicle preformed klike crap , constant calls to chip it guys got me knowwhere, they always had an excuse or a "update " that needed to be preformed . Even told me to buy a laptop so I could self tune ???
Unfortunately I had purchased one for my mates LC200 - His played up so bad we had to have it towed to Toyota who then proceeded to wipe off his 3 yrs of warranty and chagred him $2k for a fix that was something to do with fuel pressure. We spoke with Chipit guys , who said they would send an upgraded model (we had only had the origional for one week) ..... We sent the origional back , they say they never recieved it so we were out of pocket again. They then advised us to buy the "new model" which we did (at a reduced price I think) , but it sits on the shelf now collecting dust as I cannot bring myself to go through it all again .........lol. I still see all the issues on these forums with the Chip It models .......any unit that gives regular fault codes , in my eyes has not been tested properly.

Just bought a ZR prado and put a new DP chip on it , fun factor is good , definately no lag , launches off the lights very quickly . Tows 2 ton van up hills like it was a v8 .

Im no expert , but in my experience Chipit needs to get some real time under their belt and get it right before they would qualify as proven. Steinbauer is German ??? probabally good value somewhere .. DP chip has been good to me and all my vehicles , would buy it again tomorrow ...does what it says without any issues , or fault codes at all.
Just my opinion guys , not looking to start a war . Proof is in the pudding !!!

      People,

I bought a Roos chip which is exaclty the same as the Chip It product. That is the same cable, computer box, labels (except brand and serial number). I am told the programming (flash) is different but cannot validate that information.

I had only one problem, when I transmitted on the HF Radio (outback / RFDS 100w Codan) the motor stopped with lots of alarms. THe same problem with my brothers 120. I am glad I had the scangauge as the car would not go up the drive way until the code was cleared.

I fixed the problem by using shielding, ferrite and bypass capacitors (fitted inside the covers on the connector to the computer) on the interface cable. This fixed all the problems with the radio transmitting and made no effect on the fucntions of the chip.

The performance is very much noticed - it breaks free on corners with the foot to the metal which it did not do prior to the chip.

I found the diesel holds top gear up most hills and does not tend to shift down to 4th like it used too. I also noticed the flat spot is gone.

Best part is the fuel economy in about 10% better (afer 6,000kms).

      Nifty..

        Hi Prokiwi,

In regards to DP Chip did you find fuel consumption increased or was there a slight decrease ?

        cheers

I think you meant to say that the Roos Chip is the same as the DPChip, not Chip It.

I looked at all the chips when I bought the 150. Now I am not saying that I have one on my vehicle but hyperthetically if I did get one I would be getting the DP Chip. I know there are others which offer more power and torque and some which are cheaper but the DP chip never seems to cause any problems on any of the vehicles I have had it on before, it gives a good amount of increase in power, it has a great warranty but most importantly you can install and remove it in less than 1 minute and I used to always take it off before going in for a service.
Now hyperthetically if I did have the DP Chip on, I "have heard" that it causes better fuel economy, a great increase in power and eliminates most of the turbo lag. I "have heard" that in some very unscientific testing, the ZR with chip out accelerated a 200 series TDV8 Cruiser.
            Thanks,

            Adam

""the ZR with chip out accelerated a 200 series TDV8 Cruiser"" I'd love to see that........... (ps, not referring to you, as you stated you only heard about it) My mate has 200 series cruiser with nearly 3t van behind it, my other mate (driving) and myself were behind it in a brand new navara (heap of crap) and couldnt catch the 200 with van in tow merging onto the M4 here in Sydney. Dont know how the navara's have a 3 t tow weight ?? My mate in the 200 said he had it flat just to see how it pulled upto 110 to merge, the pulling power (torque) in those things is unreal. When I was in Melbourne to go and have a look at a used 80td the bloke selling it picked me up in a new 200 advantage (limited model) and was tubo diesel, I said to him him these are nice and quit, he gave it a gutfull and from 110 to 160 was unbelievable. I may be proven wrong but I couldnt imagine a D4D even with chip out accelerate a 200T/D.......Cheers steve

In regard to the fuel economy with the DP Chip, well I muss confess I think Iam using the foot a little more than I used to , but the computer says I am using exactly the same as I was before , I do think I get there quicker though.

I am fairly certain that it would show some savings over stock , but would be guessing at how much.

As for Adam's comment about a ZR with a chip beating a LC 200 , I can agree it is absolutely possible , as I can do it with my mates LC200 against my Prado , over and over again. I think the advantage is in the launch , mine is like a rocket off the line and given 100mtres will beat a LC200 every time..... Fact , not fiction . !!

I am not one to promote particular products, however I am very impressed with the DP Chip results in my ZR and the difference is nothing short of impressive. I have used, and would use this product over and over again...... It might not be the absolute top preformer, but for a module that you do not have to join wires, add in EGR sensors, etc etc , and it can be unplugged with one pull of one plug and cap it (that returns the car to stock) .

Must be the weight difference. must say my old 1kz was quick off the mark but died off really quick, would pull nothing like a D4D prado or 200.............Cheers Steve

Steve, I should have qualified that the Prado out accelerated the Cruiser from a standing start. I agree that the Cruiser had fantastic torque, but there is just soooooo much turbo lag that they can't keep up, up to 100km/h. The Prado launches off the line like a rocket. It was tested a number of times and even with different drivers because a mate who had bought the Cruiser just didn't want to believe it. He was so disappointed he went out and bought a chip and total exhaust upgrade for his 200. I now laugh at him, reminding him how much extra he has had to spend just to keep up with a Prado. :-)
                    Thanks,

                    Adam

I agree, Chip Its chip is very different to DP and Roo. No comparison in my book.

As for outdoing 200's, well my D$D towing a trailer is rarely overtaken and always has to overtake other diesels up hills that are oviously not chipped and struggle while I stay on cruise at 115.

Those that know me or have traveled with me know I'm impressed with my Chip It. Any replacement of my 120D4D will be chipped from the outset.

If your in SA and want to check your rig side by side I am happy to oblige

Yeah must admit I would have thought the 200 would eat the prado been twin turbo etc and then to go and spend more $$$ on getting a chip and exhaust to still be outdone by a 4 cly prado would have him absolutly spewing LOL.......Obviously towing I imagine would be a different kettle of fish..................Cheers Steve
