Oil Catch Can for catching Blow-by....

Ok, I've had my Provent 200 catch can fitted for about 4 months now. Have been checking it regularly, but I've never seen ANY oily crap collecting in the bottom of the tube. The inside of the Provent has a VERY slight oily sheen, but I'm wondering what is the usual amount of "blow-by" you can expect to collect? I was expecting more...Prado 150 D4D AUTO GXL with ARB Deluxe Winchbar, Brains' TG150 Transfer Case Actuator Guard, Bilstein/Ridepro 50mm Lift, Safari Snorkel, D697 265/65/17 LTs, Dual Battery Setup with REDARC Controller, REDARC Tow Pro, Toyota Tow Bar, Maxtrax - towing a Camprite TL8s fitted with GXL wheels and D697s.

I undo mine about once a week and let it drain for a few minutes into a dish. Got it coming down through the wheel arch, easy reach behind the front drivers wheel.

Will get you a pic on the weekend Tricky. Overseas at the moment.
Got Western Filters to give me an oil safe hose for the drain one too, so it doesn't crack and deteriorate over time. It's run down through the engine bay and then down past the plastic flappy thing behind the wheel. 2 x zip ties tying it to the chassis and it just pokes down under the body. Easy reach and doesn't get touched when off road either. Very happy with the setup.

Thanks Mate. I had a look at mine again and it stops short of the plastic flappy thing. I was never quite happy with where the hose and tap sat, perhaps a slightly longer hose would've worked better. You make a good point on the better quality hose too.2014 150 GXL D4D Facelift, White with Colour Coded ARB Deluxe Bar, Side Rails and Steps, ARB Recovery Point, ARB Intensities (1 x Flood, 1 x Spot), ARB Air Compressor on AMTS bracket, ARB 60L Fridge, OME 2” Lift, BFG AT2 265/70/R17, Dual Battery with RedArc SBI12, HR Tow Bar, Sandgrabba floor mats, Pioneer Platform, Outback Drawers, MaxTrax on TraxRax, Icom IC-450N UHF, The Wet Seat seat covers, AMTS tyre carrier spacer and telescopic light pole.

What has been said is "wet soot" caused by egr mixing oil mist wears the valves less and is easyer to clean from the manifold, some have said the oil mist "washes" the soot and keeps the manifold slightly cleaner. "Dry soot" is when a catch can is fitted or the PCV system is vented to atmosphere and the egr is still flowing through the manifold which could wear the valves quicker and the build up is definatly harder to clean off.
So now with a partially blocked egr the oil mist is even more effective at "washing" the soot, and with a blocked egr it doesn't make as much difference, thus most are choosing to ditch or not bother with the catch can.[LEFT]Silver 150 Facelift

Catch cans cost money, they are untidy, they remove varying amounts of oil, oil which seems to have provided some upper end lubrication.
Remove the soot instead, it is the real enemy, fit the egr flow reduction plate.

Search : EGR Blanking Plate Toyota D4D 1KD-FTV 3.0 TD Hilux Prado
That will reduce the majority of the soot cake. Then the oil will help wash the soot through, dry soot cake is very abrasive, not good.

With egr flow reduction plate & oil for wash & lube.
