    Hi John

My bracket is just a strip of 25mm flat bar bent into a L shape. I measured an drilled the upright to mount the can and mounted it to a existing thread, coming up from out of the RHS inner guard, here is a pic to explain the bracket..

Did you mount the catch can sideways Matt? I've heard that the DRiFT products work best when mounted sideways...

Tar tek, Does the Calibra catch can perform well? I was looking at one of them earlier and found that there was no filter or separator inside them they are hollow.

Matty, is the DRiFT catch can hollow or is there a filter/separator internal to improve the efficiency of the unit?

                Hi Matty,

It's hollow, but I extended the inlet with a piece of copper tube. (see my previous post)

The oil should drop into the bottom of the can.

I shall keep you posted over the next few months as the can fills.

                    Hi Matt - mr 4x4,

Teflon tape is a better option than electrical tape to create a better fit of the rubber tubing.

Teflon tape is not effected by Hydrocarbons.

The stiction on the electrical tape hates oil & diesel & when it's attacked by Hydrocarbons creates slip between the layers of tape.

The glue goes from "Stiction" to "Sliption".

Here is a link for interested people to have a read. About 1/3 of the way down the page there is a report from someone who has done some testing. In short they identified that most catch can filter materials caused an increase in the amount of oil that was sucked back into the motor. Worth a read.

Given that the catch cans have been getting a show in for the 150 (and I know I have a 120 - its the same engine), below are some pics of a Calibra Catch Can install... Picked up the catch can from the local Supercheap Auto Store and fitted it today, will see how it does without any internal modifications. I did however, rotate the top section 30 deg. to point the inlet/outlet in a better direction.

The level indicator is clearly visible from the passenger side next to the redarc...

Hey Roo.... sorry for the late reply, but I kinda got side tracked with other things....

I can't remember how I found that one I put up, but I also have recently purchased a Navara D22 Ute with the ZD30 engine and it had one of those Drift Catch Cans installed. Upon further inspection I still noticed signs of oil post Turbo, so I removed all IC pipes and found that the catch Can wasn't working like it should. After talking to my Cousin who's in the Filtering Business, he suggested the using the Provent 200 which comes with the internal Filter Element where as the Drift units don't but most people install a coarse Steel Wool inside to help catch some of the oil out of the mist/vapour.
I took his word and have pulled out the Drift unit and replaced it with a Provent 200 and had no issues and no signs of any oil post Turbo.... all good.

Still considering whether or not to install one on the 150's. Not sure whether it will effect any warranty issues

I will monitor this post more closely to gauge whether I install one sooner than later.....

I don't work on the Mitsubishi vehicles but I do work on the Nissan vehicles. The main reason for installing the catch can on the ZD30s, is to stop the mass airflow sensor from being fouled. Because they are the wire type, they can be pretty hard to clean too when they do get down and dirty.
Hey Rob, how much are those 42s, do you know?
Prevention is always better than the cure so they say, the Roo.
