You will really feel the difference swapping it out, I dragged a 21' full size Coromal up to Shark Bay and back and dragged it from mum and dads before I swapped the muffler and was really worried about towing all that way.
Swapped the muffler and couldn't believe the difference it made, still felt it but nowhere as much as with the standard muffler.

      hey guys

having a read through this thread, to answer the questions - we have tested them on our dyno.... the lux's and the prados really love having aftermarket exhausts fitted.

I would suggest getting rid of the cat and changing the muffler for a straight through pipe, most exhausts shops should be able to chop these up for you for around $150-300 depending where you live etc.

should pick up around the 5-10rwkw mark and about 30-40nm of torque out of it in the peak but the downlow power with the turbo spooling more freely is much more noticeable and makes the car heaps better to drive!

we have full systems available from mild, aluminum and stainless with and without cats if you want to go the option of a complete turbo back kit

      edit:

it will give you an increase in economy because the turbo will be running higher boost levels at 60/80/100/110 k's an hour the standard, will also help to lower EGT's for those of you who tow!

Thanks diesel, your Dyno results are good to hear, and seem to be in agreement with what it feels like. I've done the muffler and am happy. Do you think that replacing the cat with a high flow cat would give a similar % increase as the muffler has?

Hi DieselSmart. I had my muffler replaced with a straight through sports muffler and I love the results. I got a 0.8L/100km improvement I economy and a much more drivable car. The results were so good that now I don't think I will get the full upgrade to the exhaust.

My question is, without a chip, have you done the dyno comparison to :-
          A. Standard
          B. muffler swap for straight through muffler
          C. 2.5" system, and
          D. 3" system

If not, could you give us your thoughts on the benefits of each to help us get a real understanding of the cost versus benefit for each.

We have never seen a comparison to know if there would be a real advantage in paying for a full system. I have been told that a 3" system will give me about a 1L/100km better than standard fuel economy and better towing power, but the possibility of loosing some low down torque.

For me the question relates to what I will do when the current one dies in a couple of years, but for those with the cash, this type of information would assist with building their Prado.

            Hi Steve

In relation to your questions, We have never had a standard Prado then changed the muffler then put a full system on it, we only see with a full system or with no system at all. It's rare that we see them with either high flow cats or straight through mufflers.

The only way to test it would be to get one that has had the straight through modification and then the full exhaust and see the difference.

The biggest advantage of having a full system over just changing the muffler is getting high flow cats and an upgraded dump pipe. This will allow the turbo to make a little bit more boost then standard and come on earlier in the rev range but.... that being said to take full advantage of this you would need to have some kind of chip or module installed that is making the turbo run higher boost levels.

I hope that answers your questions

If you want any more information give us a call on 07 4930040 and ask to speak with Mike, his been a diesel fitter for 25 years and knows diesel engines like the back of his hand
