EGR blanking plate to block off or restrict?

    I'd say have a very close look at your vacuum lines.
    Is it since installation? Or just recently happened?
    On the inlet manifold there is a bracket to the block, quite a lot of vacuum lines around this area, down towards the engine mount.
    I hope you find one off, as that would be 2 the same found. It will motivate me to do more playing with vacuum lines to achieve this 0% vw style

    • I opened mine up to have a look and unfortunately was not surprised with what i found.

      Looking back down the pipe. Just a thin sheen of oil

      Looking pretty oily here

      Looks like i'm gonna have to plan a dirty weekend... and not the fun kind

          • Review after 3500k's since fitting the 7mm plate & decarbonising everything. Oil is definitely staying cleaner (Mobli Delvac 1 ESP 5w40). No noticeable difference for fuel usage in metro running, but .03-.04 l/100 better when doing rural travel (100-110kph, 1x passenger, 1x 54kilo dog, no towing. BP Ultimate diesel only). As others have mentioned it does feel like there is better low down power, but nothing to substantiate this.

                Yeah wondering the same also..

                Or am I just better off getting a Diesel mechanic to do it and clean at the same time? Obviously would love to do it myself but don't want to totally mess anything up.

                  There is how to clean egr threads on Newhilux. Net & prado tech,.com not sure how accurate they are, I have not read them.
                  It's pretty str8 forward job. But it is very difficult for many. That is remove the egr & clean it & manifold if required.
                  Allow 4 hrs for egr clean & plate up.
                  A full day at least with manifold removal & cleaning, you need lots of patience.

                      • Best place is on the cylinder head. Use the slotted restrictor plate so you don't need to remove the entire EGR cooler. Loosen the EGR cooler on the intake manifold to allow for movement to allow for the new plate. Remove the electric plug off the rail for easier access to the top bolt.

                        • The only place is at the head. If you try & make it fit at the other end, you likely end up with fault codes & blockages.
                          Really you should be cleaning it out & starting fresh.

                            Yea, he's definately a solid dog. Rotti x Bull Arab. Fortunately he's good natured & well trained, otherwise could well be a handful. And he loves having his own a/c vents in the Prado.

                              Thanks for the advice, put the plate at the cooler and removed the egr butterfly assembly down to the intake elbow.
                              About 4mm of black crud, I can't beleive any manufacturer would design a engine that allows that stuff to enter the internal workings of the engine.
                              Wasn't that hard to do I just kept pulling thinks off to get access to the bolts, hopefully it will go back together.

                              It would be nice to go further into the intake manifold, I'm sure it would be just as bad going by the elbow under the egr assembly.

                                I cleaned mine to the same point recently but can't leave it like that. I've ordered gaskets and will post pics of the manifold removal process in a couple of weeks. You are right the fuel lines need to come off then the heat exchange thingy & intake manifold. Looks painful but simple.
