So is there a step by step guide for fitting the blanking plate on the 150 series, and where to fit it for the best benefit, as I can;t seem to find one any where on line.

      My EGR valve:

78,000km, filthy EGR and injectors need replacing.
Catch can and EGR restricting plate installed (same day as photo taken).

Hi Si. Firstly: yuck. Secondly do you mean egr blank and catchcan were installed previously, or are you going to do it now? If they were already in, how many kms before and after the install has your car done?

Post updated. Catch can and plate installed the same day that photo was taken.

            Hi ####,
When fitting the blanking plate do I need a gasket either side or does the plate just fit between the gasket and the pipe?
How much needs to be disassembled to fit the plate?

My catch can installation and 500km of catched crap.

Seems to be a worthwhile undertaking and very cheap and simple too.

No need extra gasket. You are correct it goes between.

To do it right, remove & clean egr etc, some very fiddly parts.
4 hrs work for me. Sometimes more 150's & aftermarket accessories in the way take longer.
Some DIY have spent most of the day in pain.
Others rip through it real fast.

Mine runs better after a dose of this:

Don't know what the egr looks like; don't want to know either. Runs nicely now, no smoke... catcher installed so shouldn't deteriorate too quickly. Will spray more intake cleaner periodically to keep it in check.

had mine done today, EGR clean, restriction plate, injector clean and tappet check. I saw the pics of mine at 160km, not a pretty sight. First impressions on the road - the manual has a lot less lag off the mark, pulling away from low RPM is much nicer now and i don't think that the car has ever run so well since i have owned it.

                    well worth having one installed.

looking forward to what you are doing with the full EGR block with the clean air supply. Had an email back from Ozbush Electronics who are working on an electronic fix for the codes when a full block is in place , invited Young to join PradoPoint so he can help solve our problems with a full EGR block electronically.

                        Cheers Derek

Made the 7mm hole plate this morning. Installed and tested, no ECU alarms so far. Time will tell if the oil stays cleaner.

I keep accurate records on fuel usage so will post if any improvement.

                            Hi guys
I'm looking into doing this mode with my 150. It has a provent installed at 4000km and its now done around 18k on the clock.

is it fair to say that the blowby contributes havily to the baking or making up of the soot? Meaning if there was no oil in the mix the soot would just be more dust and just getting caught up in the engine oil?

I'm also confuse with the egr hole.in the plate. If we are seeing a build up of thick soot in the egr body over some time wouldnt we be shortening this time frame by providing a smaller hole to be blocked?

No, blow by is usually a very small amount of oil must which accumulates at joins.
It does act as the glue for the DHUEGR, other than that it's not a problem.
The only thing some catch cans will do is reduce the oil mist, some dont work that well & some that do may restrict the PCV, which is important to help prevent sludge.

The flow reduction mod is well away from oil & build up, just dry soot, so it has a dry Nasty surface costing, bit not a build up.
It's later where the DHUEGR meets the oil mist where things are often blocked.

                                Hi Anthony,

So many posts on this subject, even different threads, but I have been thinking about this plate and seems to me that if the EGR flow is restricted then that pressure must go somewhere.

Does the plate actually restrict the flow or simply cause it to flow more like a jet of compressed air rather than a breeze which alters the way it mixes with the other air.

If the gunk does not gather in the inlet then it must be burnt, so it is possible that an engine with a plate may actually pollute less than an engine in standard design.

Do you know if anyone has actually tested the exhaust to compare the difference, unlikely I suppose as the plate is so simple to copy that no one could make any money out of it.

Does this different air mix put any pressure on other parts of the motor ? I though maybe it burns hotter or cooler or something.
