The 1kz set up is different. Much more simple & reliable.
Although injectors are wear & tear items yours are probably ok for a while longer.
If you notice, bad fuel consumption, lacking power, smokey or running rough you might want to get them swapped, but for now relax :-)

Goodo. Just had the throttle and inlet cleaned out so I'm looking forward to seeing how my next tank goes fuel economy wise. Does seem a little bit more responsive when I press the loud pedal.

So just to clarify, ignore parts of the scheduled service but then spend a heap of exta money to over service it in order to check if there is an issue that could easily have been avoided if you just did the scheduled service in the first place

Like I said, I can't see the point in spending money on 5k services, save your money and put it towards a new set of injectors when the time comes.

        Cheers Andrew

Spend a Heap of extra? No as explained earlier oil is cheap $60, Free if you are smart & save the "heap" from removing injector pipes & rocker cover unnecessarily. (Toyo would easily charge $240) to do the valve clearance, which isn't required @ 40k.
Could get some dirt in the lines for you for free also?

The other good reason to change the oil every 5k is it will help keep the inlet system cleaner, you know the egr thing?
Anyway, it seems $60 is a lot extra for you every 10,000klms, & you don't want to do it, that's your choice.
Keep playing I just don't get it if you want, but others get it.

Maybe try comparing apples with apples if you want to make a point, $240 for Toyota to do the valve clearance and you quote oil only DIY for the oil change. If you took it Toyota they would also do the filter and probably charge around $200.

Of course in this case at 40k its fixed price servicing at Toyota anyway, so its not going to cost $240.

If people want to throw away money on over servicing who am I to tell them differently, but just because some guy on the internet comes up with a few half arsed reasons as to why its a good idea doesn't necessarily make it a good idea.

            Cheers Andrew

              I'm no Dummy AJ120
I know the oil has no relation to injector seals and life of injectors.
How do I know this? 25 years of being qualified diesel mechanic. I know how it works.
I just asked what other peoples thoughts were on changing the seals at the 40k clearance check.

You can change your oil at 10k if you like but for me every 5k is going to be my schedule.

If your happy with 5k intervals then that fine, my comments were not directed at you but rather the whole 5k interval thing that almost always comes up in threads related to injectors. Unfortunately not all people reading this will understand things as well as you do and the fact is I have had a number of members that I have met who were changing oil every 5k on the belief that it would help avoid injector issues.

It's unfortunate that people read these types of threads and come away with the impression that if they don't do 5k oil changes their motor will blow up.

This thread here is a good example, http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-chip-purchase

Here is a guy about to jump into a 150 D4D, then he starts reading here and now is under the impression he has to check his oil pickup screen every 5k, when the problem with the blocked screens is on the early 120 series with the uncoated seals. So now he is having second thoughts about whether he should go this route or not.

Information is really valuable but the wrong information is just as bad as none at all, which is what tends to happen with these threads, the lines get blurred between models and what's fact and what's opinion.

Case in point. Some time ago one member was telling people if they changed their 120 intercooler to front mount instead of a top mount that would solve the injector issue, he repeated this often enough that other members were telling people; that people were changing the intercooler and it had fixed the problem. Truth was that no one had reported changing it and in the few months that this "theory" was doing the rounds it would have been totally impossible to tell if had any effect at all.

                    Cheers Andrew

All 120s and early 150s have the uncoated sheets.

Toyota fixed price servicing at the 40,000 klm service just covers precisely what is in the service book. If it says check, then they check. If it requires adjustment, you pay extra. If it says replace, then you are covered. When I had mine serviced recently, the valve clearances were checked and 4 "seal, nozzle holder" and 4 "gasket, nozzle holders" were replaced, plus some other unspecified gaskets. I asked for the handbrake to be adjusted and that was extra cost. When I asked whether the valve clearances were ok, I was told that they must have been because if they required adjusting, I would have to pay extra

Actually Andrew they didn't but I am not interested in a pissing contest. I have seen a 150 with uncoated sheets. ToyoDIY also listed two part numbers for the 150 and only one for the 120.

I can guarantee you 100% that not all 120's had the un coated seals. Also not interested in a pissing contest so I'll leave it at that and people can do as they please.

All I know with these D4D engines is I am totally annoyed with myself for not buying the V6

If I had it all over again it would have been my pick.
Unfortunately I am stuck with the diesel for now.

The additional service and repair cost outweigh the fuel saving.
