That's a lot of work and parts cost for inclusion in a fixed service fee.

Next service due for me is the 40K so I may need to give them a call and see what they say.
I wouldn't want any dealer to touch these anyway, not when the engine is running perfectly at this time. Here for a good time, not a long time!

Hi Bushbasher,
was a bit paranoid about this whole issue when I had my 2007 120 TD Prado, so when the right deal came along last year, upgraded to my fourth TD Prado in 13 years, just in case. Mine had been making an intermittent knocking sound.
I purchased a Toyota Intelligence Tester II from overseas after reading the horror stories on this forum. I am sure yours was one of them. This helps me check things electronically every now and then. So far, so good. Mechanically, I check the Prado on my mates hoist after each service, because without fail, something is not done - especially the proper greasing of the slip joint on the rear drive shaft.
Still not sure if I prefer the 120 or the 150 better, pros and cons for me. I still miss the original 2000 90 series with it's switchable fuel tanks, and high ground clearance as standard.
To be honest though, there are thousands of TD Prado's on the road, and not all are going to run faultlessly, all the time. It's just the way it is. As long as it's not mine.
I love my Prado. They are becoming more soft roader with each update, and I have to spend more each time to make it as capable as the previous model it seems. If they all go the way of the new Altitude (single tank), I'll be looking for something else next time (unless they bring out the twin turbo 3litre V6 TD I keep waiting for).
Regards, Steve. Here for a good time, not a long time!
