Mmmmm?... Make a cup of tea as this will be long in detail! IMHO
Power is not torque!.... Power is in the acceleration and you will get that with a chip followed by black soot and followed closely by increased combustion temps and the temps will continue to clime if constant load is applied.... Hence the EGT gauge & probe (Exhaust Gas Temperature) to shut the chip down when your temps start to get out of control. (Unless you put the chip on minimum setting then it is pointless having it). IMHO!
Note: An EGT gauge is the monitor displaying/setting the temp & the probe is officially known as a pyrometer that is supposed to be fitted up-stream of the turbo in order to respond quickly and accurately to actual combustion temps despite people fearing of the tip breaking and trashing the turbo.
Firstly!.. If the tip is going to break because of excessive temps for which the tip is designed to withstand then the turbo is already over heating and so are the combustion temps!
I do not get extra power but what i do get is more torque/cleaner burning/ & "more importantly" i do get "TRUE" improved fuel consumption compared to a chip and chips perceive that you are getting better fuel consumption but they actually burn more fuel (& Reduce engine oil life span) based on the fact that they over-ride the ECU to fool it into giving the engine more fuel but the ECU still calculates the fuel consumption on what it THINKS it is burning.
I personally would "NEVER" put a chip near my diesel based on what i know IMHO
I walked the walk by fitting LPG (Despite all of the negative feed back from others!) and i have never had to fit a EGT probe that's shuts down the chip when temps are getting out of control..... LPG just works perfect for me and i don't have to hide or remove it for fear of loss of engine warranty/Insurance engine warranty.
I have never had a limp mode (Apart from when i was experimenting with my EGR but that's another enlightening story!!
My LPG did "NOT" void my engine warranty despite receiving a letter from Toyota (Toyota would have to prove fault of cause first) or void my car insurance engine warranty... Chips actually do! (Read the fine print on your insurance policy).
Not Chip's as in the TV series from the mid 70's!... Lol
My LPG was backed/approved by the government rebate of $2,000 (Chips was not).
My LPG came with a fully certified compliance plate registered to my rig through the RTA (Chips are not).
My LPG had to be fitted legally by a "Fully qualified & Licensed" LPG fitter! (Chips do not).
Going from my above observations i figure that is why some Diesel fitters love chips and knock the hell out of LPG/Diesel given that they are not qualified to fit LPG therefore no money is in it for them but i do believe it is not in there interest to promote LPG as this would jeopardise there profit margin on selling chips if they was to give LPG a good rap!.... Unless you are a Qualified/ Certified LPG fitter of course!
Disclaimer: The last paragraph is just IMHO the same as everyone else's & not legal binding
There is many different types of systems with there different set ups for LPG/Diesel and some failed (Went bust) and some work quite well!.. Mine does!
Hope this helps
Cheers
