So my 2010 GX had 113,900klm on it when it started to get the smallest rattle, cold and hot. So I parked it up in the shed till I could get it booked in to get the injectors replaced. I wasn't prepared to let it go any further and you can see, it doesn't have very high kilometers on it. I'm glad I did!!!:
The car is so much smoother now, I mean it was before, but now it is smooth and quiet. It's probably got a slight amount more power back but the best part is, almost 0.5L/100klm better economy.
I have an extra 30 micron pre-filter on it, have for over 40,000klm and I get my fuel from the same place 95% of the time. I use an additive/cleaner every tank full at the recommended dose and have done since I bought the car. The reality is, injectors are a consumable these days, as shown by the fact that the injectors were out of spec at these kilometers. I care for my Prado as best I can and nothing you do can stop these things wearing out.
I had the injectors replaced with Denso genuine, new pipes, sheets, seals and had the EGR cleaned out. All coded in and re-learnt and it's running beautiful.
My advice is to be prepared to change them out as the car approaches the 100,000klm mark and eliminate the chance of having to buy a new engine, as some before us have. Keep your ear on the sound of the engine, especially if you don't get the feedbacks done on a regular basis.
I can pass on the details of the tech that completed my job. He has a very clean workshop, has experience doing the injector job and went the extra mile to make sure all aspects of the job were done properly.
Cheers Brad
