It actually has no direct relation to fuel consumption. The Eco light in the Prado is purely and simply on/off based on accelerator pedal position. Nothing more, nothing less.

You can test this by putting the cruise control on next time you're on the freeway. When you climb a hill, lightly press the accellarator pedal but not enough to override the cruise control. You will notice the Eco 'bar' indication relates only to your pedal position

This doesn't change the fact that if you are driving with a light pedal pressure you are probably saving fuel :-)

The "ECO" light in the dash works by evaluating your throttle position and your current speed.
It lights up when it considers that you are accelerating in an efficient way based on your throttle position and vehicle speed. The threshold for the ECO light to turn off is higher at lower speeds and lower at higher speeds.
So at lower speeds it will allow a higher consumption before the light goes off and at higher speeds it is the opposite.

So basically it does nothing more than show you if you are driving in an efficient way.

If it is the same as the pre 2.8 facelift there is a "menu" option as you cycle through the odd/trip/fuel use etc on the dash. One of them says "eco off". This is for the GX/GXL, the higher spec models have it in the menu using the "mode" button on the steering wheel.

Mine didn't stay on for very long. The wife even noticed it and asked what the yellow light was that kept coming on and off on the dash was.

Hey guys, Ive got a 2012 diesel Altitude auto. It has Optitronic display the same as VX & Kakadu. When you go into the "mode" on steering wheel and cycle through it doesn't have anything about Eco. Even when you go to the next page, you only have Parking sensors on and off and 2nd Start.

Anybody got any idea how to turn Eco off on my rig?
