  • Steinbauer chip and new exhaust

Hi all, I recently had a Steinbauer chip fitted and the improvement in power etc very noticeable car goes great. Am now looking at upgrading the exhaust and cannot undecided between the Taipan and Beaudesert. Fundamentally I am seeking any advice on who I could get to install and at the same time have the car dyno tuned. Am in Sydney on the south side so any recommendations would be appreciated.

I'm in exactly the same boat and have been leaning towards the Beaudesert with their 2.75inch system. You can get them to courier it to you and then find a local installer/tuner with a dyno? Their customer service seems pretty good from what I have experienced so far.

Value for money I dont think you can go past the genie stainless steel system personally.

I went with the Beaudesrt and fitted it myself in the garage - my advice "get someone else to do it" getting the tail pipe over the diff was a nightmare.
I had a look at most of the systems and noticed that many were 3" except for the bend over the diff which was either 2.75" or flattened out to clear the heat shields with limited room in this space. Something to consider.
Very happy with the Beaudesert system, great service arrived in less than a week to the other side of the country. Every thing supplied and apart from getting it over the diff and removing the nuts from the turbo, went together very well.

I have both the Beaudesert 2.75 exhaust and the upgrade software Steinbauer on my facelift 150, fitted the exhaust myself (on a hoist) took about 2 hours, the hardest part was removing the factory dump from the turbo. Can imagine it would be very difficult at ground level
The Beaudesert would have to be one of the best fitting exhaust I have fitted/seen
They complement each other, the car is so much smoother and the torque increase is great
I have not had it tuned on the dyno yet as I only got the Steinbauer last week and have gone off on holidays (it is on the factory setting at the moment) I plan on getting it tuned in the next few months

Like many things in life, paying a few hunge for an experienced person with all the right gear to do it outweighs the frustration and skinned knuckles.
Dump pipe removal was not easy and my only real complaint with the Beaudesert system was the supplied clamp which attaches to the bell housing was a mongrel to fit as it has to be stretched over the pipe and closing it back up to fit the clamp bolt was not fun. Should be supplied already around the pipe.

Will be interesting to hear if the exhaust makes a difference after already getting used to the power difference with the chip. Anybody know who deals with these chips in Perth? I've just started researching as I think the prado needs a little boost on the hwy.

Does the new exhaust really make that much difference? I would have thought the computer would keep things in check. How much better is it because I was thinking of one?

There is a guy up here that is re flashing Hilux and Prado ECUs now to tune them instead of chipping with outstanding results with the added benefit of being able to delete EGR as well that has done extensive research on the dyno who says there is absolutely no advantage of a bigger that standard exhaust system

I personally would beg the differ, to me i found the exhaust made a difference - especially after chipping it on my D4D Hilux,
on my 2014 Prado i have only exhausted it, using the MANTA system it works well. Like mentioned before, the diff and turbo nuts are a problem spot, even on ramps u need more swing over the diff.

how does warranty go with re-flashing the ECU's ??

Pics of our Tiapan failures on our older 120 series. The 3" was very close to the cross member at the rear diff and broke due to no support on the straight run beside the gearbox. They replaced it under warranty but I had to make a new mount to stop the exhaust from shaking.

I fitted the Beaudesert exhaust first, it made the car much smoother and more drive able, better economy and not much increase in sound. Then fitted the Steinbauer which made the car even more responsive, with greater acceleration and torque when starting off, climbing hills or overtaking

Yea the joys of a Toyota dealers,
they started to suggest that because of my 3" exhaust it would void warranty, i requested them to put it in writing and signed by the general manager...
they refused to do that. - not sure why - i figure everyone likes to talk tough but writing and signing different story.
they can only refuse warranty if the exhaust causes issues directly affecting the car.
therefore they couldn't defer warranty on your brake pads seeing it has no way of relating to your exhaust. (example)

talking about the wobble on the exhaust rusty, i need to do mine on the manta also, it wobbles too much, for a fabricator to like.
no big deal - just a pain in the bum.
