  • Fuel warning light on

Would anyone be able to help with possible cause to why my fuel warning light has come on and stays on. My car is 2014 prado only 57000 k's. Log book says to take car straight to dealer no other help. I'm thinking I may have dirty fuel as I have filled up from empty only 200ks ago.

There are several causes for that but most likely you just need a new fuel filter. Sounds that you're right and got a dirty batch of fuel. If you replace the fuel filter then the light should go out.

Thanks Jimmy. Is it worth adding a second filter at this time?

Same problem today, half way up the coast on hols, (towing the camper) and I have the warning light on. Nearest dealer will be Kempsey, so will wait till Monday morning.
Thinking an extra filter too. Pre or Post ?

PS: Runout 3.0ltr Prados at $59,000 drive away looked good?

All fixed Ryde Toyota I got ripped off $150 for a new fuel filter. He says they should be changed around every 50,000. Some out bush do them every 20 though. Phoned Ultra tune at Castle Hill they would charge $85 fitted. All good.

Ultratune also would have used an aftermarket fuel filter, just sayin........

Really, so denso, who make the genuine filter, manufacture them for ryco? I don't think so. Ultratune usually use either bursons or repco, for parts supply. Usually, but not always, they fit ryco filters. Now nothing against ryco filters, but they aren't genuine filters and this would definatly affect your warranty, also, not all filters are equal. Some have more pleats in their paper element meaning they can hold more debris before blocking, some have better quality paper than others, some use thicker steel casings than others, etc. Not trying to start an argument, but just get your facts straight before giving "advice". I don't want to flame you, but it was clearly your intention on me! I was just trying to point out a possible reason for the price difference.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case that there are only a few filter manufacturers.
A lot of companies manufacture speciality products like these for other companies to re-brand, or offer various levels of product quality due to there having to be special & specific(thus expensive) manufacturing plants & processes.

Take LCD panels for instance, there are less than a handful of panel manufacturers worldwide that supply panels to all the other known brands to re-package - the end difference only being the shiny panel surround & software.

In any case, I totally agree with you about not fitting genuine filters - regardless of them being made by the same manufacturer, but just re-badged.
You don't want to give Toyota any extra ammo to walk away from a warranty claim - and it sounds like they are not bad at doing that.
$60 price difference ends up being cheap insurance when you are talking thousands for a new engine after Toyota wash their hands of it due to a technicality!
