  • Cleaning the manifold, EGR etc...?

Hi all, I have searched but cant seem to find a detailed description of how to clean the intake manifold and EGR systems of all the black crud. Does anyone know of any "how to" type document?

    Thanks in advance,

    Michael.

I have bought the gaskets and will probably clean the stinking mess out next weekend. I will post pics.

For the d.i.y, Bunnings sell $2 scrubbing brushes. Repco degreaser cans, also carby cleaner. The cheap motor tech brand.
Black nitrile gloves, also from Repco.
Scrape it out, spry degreaser & scrub, actually get a disposable suit from Bunnings.
With the manifold its difficult to get into, so a combination of spray scrub, pressure washer, keep rotating till clean.

I'm not gonna get to it for a bit but it's pretty much pull off the vac lines & sensor plugs, take off the bracket downstream from the intercooler, big hose, egr & throttle housing, elbo, injector pipes, heat exchanger thingo, then remove the manifold.
I think you have to drop the radiator fluid first too. Anthony?

I have done a couple now the first one I tried Subaru upper engine creaner and oven cleaner with limited success. The latest one I soaked overnight in some degreaser we use at work called Bulldog Gold then hit it with a pressure cleaner and it came up perfectly.

Better late than never I hope.
                  If your doing manifold yes & it's a p.i.t.a.
May I suggest removing the egr & elbow & check how bad it is before you remove the manifold.

As you say ####. Got some days after Xmas to get into it.
Bought a Supercheap inspection camera, will have a good look from the elbow before going further.

If you start from new & do it every 5000k it may work.
By 50,000k it's way to caked usually.
