  • Stange jerk, almost the same as when you first learnt to drive...

    Hi all

As this is the only forum where one can get answers relating to our beloved Prado's, I have a strange query, I hope I can explain it.

When driving and especially slowing down and de-accelerating, at times, the car jerks. It reminds of when one looses clutch control when learning to drive.

The jerking for lack of a better word normalises when applying the accelerator a bit more.

Normally jerks three times. Only happens and low speeds, so far.

Can anyone perhaps shed some light on this? it is a bit concerning as this never used to happen.

    thanks

    Julian

It would be useful if you could provide some more information and details about the vehicle. If it is an automatic, first thing would be to check the fluid level. Even if it is out by a small amount it can cause shifting problems.

      Apologies, totally overlooked that.

I have not personally heard of this on the Prado although there are a lot of threads about clunking when coming to a stop and starting again which is considered normal. Some things you might want to investigate include inspecting the engine and transmission mounts, low transmission fluid and a worn LSD. How many Km's are on the vehicle?

          Ok, I am just over 100 000km's.

          Thank you for the advice.

Search for tail shaft clunk, pretty sure that's your issue. Well known issue.

            Nothing serious just annoying.

Check the tailsahft and uni joints for signs of grease. If bone dry, try greasing them.

Thanks all! I am by no means a guru when it comes to these things and when something out of the ordinary happens, I get paranoid. But none the less, something to monitor and perhaps get checked out
