TRC light flashes with alarm whilst in soft sand

I would be at 15 in the soft stuff - lower if necessary.

Yeah. If you leave it on, especially in sand you will overheat your trans

I had something like this happen when in deep rutted sand . The vehicle pulled to the right requiring steering to the left which got stronger and stronger to the point when the alarms came on . I tried varying my position in the ruts but it still happened . I didn't try turning TRC off . Cheers Ross
