  • Exhaust smoke when accelerating

Towing my van I have noticed exhaust smoke when accelerating to overtake. Never noticed this on my 120 series diesel. Car done 15K. Is this something I should worry about and get the dealer to look at or normal engine behaviour?

    Thanks

Some do it. Probably build up of egr soot in intake, vehicles with 7mm plate don't do it.
150's have a lot of egr going on, yukky! Engine killer.

Other possible causes, dirty maf, dirty air filter.

30k same thing. Smoke is only there when accelerating. Otherwise it is fine! None on starting or any other time!

I did notice it a little while ago. Now when accelerating at night it is quiet visible in the light of the vehicle following the Prado.

Time to worry or too soon to worry?
D4D. How long will it last?

        No, they do it. Standard.
Put a 7mm egr flow reduction plate in & see if it clears.

          One thing that happens:
          This is from a 150 Prado @ 24,000k

It's the soot/carbon from egr. Nasty stuff.
That dust sits & build in your intake.
When u boot it, it blows through.
As they get wear, they get more blow by, more oil & the soot sticks to it.

Then you get less smokey look out the back.
The soot is wearing your engine.
          Later

Do you like that in your engine & intake?
          Is it acceptable?
