  • Q for those running 2 stroke in their 150

    There,

I'm not after a discussion on what fuel additive to use, more the delivery method. Following on from Bailey's post about running 3ml/litre of 2 stroke in a pre 2012 D4D, I have been doing so, but I'm wondering if I am adding it at the right time, given the dual tank setup of the Prado.

I have been adding the entire dosage before putting the diesel in. Is this likely to lead to a high concentration in one tank? Or is the system design such that there will be enough mixing to ensure a consistent ratio throughout? Or should I be adding half prior to filling and half before the last 50 litres?

    Thanks.

Prior to the 3mL / L suggestion, I was dosing at the rate of 200:1, thereby using 900mL of 2T per 180L of diesel. I know that once my fuel level light starts to illuminate I have about 20L of fuel remaining, so adjust the dosage accordingly.

Normally, I have been adding half at the start of the refill and then the remaining half of the 2T when I know there should be 40 L or so left to fill. Whether this makes any difference, I don't know for certain, but I think from memory the sub-tank is filled first and then the main tank. Whilst you would think that this would make a difference, I am lead to believe that there is a mixture system in place for the dual tank Prados whereby the fuel in both tanks is circulated until the main tank is emptied. Main tank is 93 L and sub-tank is 87 L from memory.

Thanks for the info, Stan. Are you talking about the 120 series (180l)? The 150 series only has 150l (87 and 63 respectively). Does anyone know if here is a tank mixing system in the 150 series?

I think I will employ your half and half dosage until I get a straight answer on this. I have a Scangauge which gives (within a litre or two) the fuel used since last refill, which makes the dosage easy to work out.

Correct.. I have the 120 series. I think the principal would be the same... the respective dosage for your main tank and sub tank according to the 3mL per L suggestion.
