Hi all,
Just got my 2016 (I think Mar build) 20k service done on Thursday, had the ecu "recall" done as well . Didn't know until I picked it up. Asked what's this and the response was it was to adjust some parameters with the DPF. Didn't dig too deep into the details but it seems to be running smoother. Who knows if that's the cause but I guess it's a wait and see sort of thing. Can't say I'm too happy with the fuel economy either. It's around 12/13 as well but I think that's just my leadfoot wife!

Yes my is the same using 0.5l of diesel more than before. Not happy with this.I will be writing to Toyota with complaints ,and suggest everybody effected do the same.
This is very good reason for class action if not resolved to our satisfaction. We were mislead about the car real fuel consumption when buying

Well, 7000km's after the ECU upgrade and after using the car no differently (well, actually, I've left the 30kg's worth of recovery gear out of it for the past 2000km) my computer is showing an average of using 0.6L/100km more than it did before the upgrade. Seems fairly similar according to some on here.
I wonder - does this change the official ADR rating of the car? Or (I suspect not) does the testing even run long enough for a DPF burn to occur?

I don't think low range is all that low either so could you just opt for diff gears
That all said if they want heat to clean the DPF we'll load at low rpm will do it

My thoughts are, Prado's weigh 2.5 tonne on average, have a smallish 2.8 litre engine, with a 6 speed auto. All that is fine, but the moonshot gearing is the problem.....way to tall for that engine to carry the weight. Top gear i think should have the engine spinning at around the 1800-2k rpm at 100km/h........If i keep ours long enough, I'd like to investigate lowering the final drive ratio before any power mods, would make a massive difference i reckon.
Cheers.

Ah sounds like the same issue they had on the 200 series. Top gear was useless unless you were travelling at 130km/h. Was eventually fixed 2 or so years later after being released by a firmware update.Originally posted by chrisb55 View PostG'day,
I had the update done some time ago, my problem was a bad change when cold. The update fixed it for a while.
As far as 6th gear goes, the update had some effect on that, it will lock up at lower speeds, but will unlock at the drop of a hat.
I have told my dealer the transmission is not good at every service.
Having said that, it's a good transmission for driving in the NT, sitting on 130, it changes less.
Thanks

G'day,Originally posted by cuda View PostI also asked them about not being able to get into 6th gear +100 kph unless in Cruise Control or take foot off the pedal momentarily. I was told that a reprogram was done...not fixed.
Everyone needs to complain about the 6th gear. Its almost pointless having it. Iv'e had all the updates and no change. Complained to Toyota direct and told its normal and no one is complaining. Dealership said only way something would get done is if a lot of people complain about it.
Thanks

Have been getting a steady 9.4 - 9.5 l/100km prior to the update. Now I'm sitting at 10.0 l/100km having done 400km...same daily hwy route and same fuel (always the same BP station with BP ultimate)...
Will give it a couple weeks and see how it goes...

You shouldn't be getting any soot on your fingers, the DPF should be catching it. I'd be talking to the dealer, especially with the black smoke...Originally posted by [email protected] View PostAre you sure that the black in the tailpipe indicates a problem of DPF? I did the finger test on my vehicle and another disco sport (5months old). Both left black on my fingers, although the Prado left more sort of particle. I also did see big black smoke a few days ago when I roared up to a steep slope (or I would be late..). At that time, the vehicle was burning the dpf and still not completely warm up.
Do these suggest I should go to dealer immedietely? Or can I wait till next service? The dealer usually needs the vehicle for a whole day.
The vehicle is 2016 2.8, 1.5 years old, 56000km. All serviced in the dealer where I bought it.

There should be (virtually) no soot whatsoever.
If do the finger test on my tailpipe you would struggle to see any soot on my finger and the outside of the tailpipe is dirtier with road grime...
Push for a new DPF - tell 'em it blows some white smoke if you have to!

How long did they say the repair would take, I've got a trip planned in 10 days time. Also can I ask which dealer in Brisbane.
