Hi all,
Have returned from trip to Central Coast NSW and managed fuel economy figures of 13.2 l/100 on way up and 12.7l/100 on way back to Melb towing loaded camper trailer. This is around 10 to15% better than a previous trip where we averaged 14.5 l/100 which is a good result.
The auto trans also seemed smoother overall and tended to hold onto 5th and 6th for longer periods than before again a good result.
Fuel economy with mainly short 50 60kmh trips is about 13l/100 so not much difference there.
Overall happy with update/recall.

that's odd, our 3L 2014 at 40k is running 8.5L average and does the school runs and highway work

There are a fair few theories, it's hard to say what is actually helping or not but I think Diesels like to be worked in general so opening her up is something I do regularly. That 6 speed sounds like a dog, the old 5 speed locks 5th from 60 and holds.

At 100km/h my sits at about 1550rpm, putting on cruise control locks in in for me when it won't lock in with the foot pedal. Getting the ecm upgrade next week. I have monitored the fuel since new and coming up to 30000kms the graph the fuel lite app gives I can see exactly when a longer burn has helped bring my fuel down. Hoping the upgrade keeps it down!

At 100kmh, if you see about 2000rpm on the tach, then you are probably in 6th, but the torque converter is not locked. There was a gearbox firmware update earlier this year, but I didn't notice any change in the behaviour at highway cruise speeds.

Guys this might sound stupid, but those of you getting poor economy when doing highway/freeway travelling, is your box engaging 6th gear? My box needs to really be coaxed into 6th gear by really pulling back on the throttle when reaching the desired 100/110/120km speed, and drops back to 5th at the mere suggestion of an incline, which then results in another coax into 6th once on flat surface again. I usually get around 9-10l per 100 around Perth metro, and when on open road can get 7.5-8.0l per 100 when on the highway at 120. I don't drive it like I do my V8 Commodore, but I don't putt around either.
Re the ECU update, Ill get this done when my next service is due in 2000km.

Likewise - mine's so far hovering around the 13.0/100 mark. Only had 500km's post the upgrade, but here's hoping that's simply because it's buzzing the begeezus out of the DPF for now. I noticed last Saturday (I took it in on Monday) that it blew some white smoke. Glad I had that bit of info so they could record it down as an issue for later (potentially). As I get it serviced from non-Toyota I don't get to see them very often. But they were quick.
