  • Question Regarding Air Filter / Snorkel

    Hi guys, I've just changed from a manual 2013 3.0L D4D to an auto 2017 2.8L D4D.
    Both have a snorkel.
The 2.8L is quite a bit less fuel efficient (seems others fine the same) and makes much more air intake / snorkel noise than the old girl.

When having a look to see if there was a cause for being much more noisy I found this metal plate in the 2.8L that sits above the air filter with many holes in it (See attached). This wasn't in the old one. I just wondered why it's there and if it could be impacting fuel efficiency (decreased air flow or something). I've attached photos of both the old and new to show you what I mean.

the metal plate is supposed to be there , supposedly it smooths out the airflow so the sensor can get a better measurement. the Hilux / Fortuners dont have one though
