Before I go see a mechanic this weekend, I was hoping to pick your collective brains about a whine/whistle that's coming from my 2013 1KD Kakadu. It's travelled 58,000km so far.
Problem: from about 1900RPM, there is a whining noise emanating from (what I think is) the engine bay. It comes on mostly around 60km/h, but does present at lower or higher speeds.
Troubleshooting/observations:
- The whine does not occur when stopped and revving in neutral
- The whine does not occur when travelling at speed and increasing revs, whilst in neutral
- I'm not confusing it with the turbo whistle, which is still subtle and can be heard in addition to this whine.
- The noise does not happen first thing in the morning when the car is cold, but starts after 30 seconds or so.
- The whine occurs in both high and low range
Being new to turbo diesels, hoping you guys can give me some pointers.
And if anybody knows of any good mechanics on the north/north-west side of Melbourne, would appreciate a recommendation.
